my computer shuts down

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:28 am

After a few minutes of playing my computer will shut down randomly. I had Rage since day 1 and it ran great. I do remember getting 1 or 2 shutdowns, but all day today and yesterday I get shutdowns every time I play. Anyone have any ideas?

I reinstalled my drivers
I checked temps of my graphics and CPU-they are fine.

It might be your Power Supply, although there have been reports of random shutdowns with PSU's with more than enough capacity

see this thread http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1239243-random-restarting-of-my-pc/

Its got to be either heat or power supply related.
What motherboard? What power supply?
Check the 12v 3.3 & 5v with software or look in Bios at those.
But its better to check voltage with a meter.
How about the north bridge? Hows the temps on it?
Are you overclocked? Nvm I see you are OCed.

Edit: Is it a actual shut down "power off" or a reboot?

When Windows restarts you should be able to look into the "Event Viewer" to see what Windows errored on. If it says: Blue Screen then it is likely power supply or RAM fault. If you're already checking the temperatures that may not be the only hardware fault.

When it crashes it shutsdown and there is no restart. Also, I have 680i nvidia MB, and an OCZ gamerXtream 700watt Power supply. I was thinking maybe the north bridge gets heated up, but I installed my side fans in my case-which does a good job cooling everything down. How do I check the rails? Any more help would be great, thanks.

btw-this has never happened before, even after of hours playing single player, and other games.
