Headshot registration Issue (video inside)

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:40 am

/*

PROBLEM FOUND: keeping the 360 pad enabled while playing with a mouse causes a bullet registration bug. http://youtu.be/HqzcHWkJMu0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPEyrjprhGU

fix for now is either don't use the pad to drive.....or disable it after every driving section. Even taking out all my launch options, the bug still exists.

hello

it might not be so much a headshot issue as much as the bullet not going where I'm aiming issue. but, in this video I used headshots as the example. doesn't always seem to happen, so I'm guessing it's some sort of bug. I only own the PC version, so I was unable to test the other versions. the game is so amazing that I might also get it on 360 too at some point. tho. Gotta show id some love for this amazing beast.

here's the video, I tried to to very clear and show the issue exactly in multiple cases.

http://youtu.be/XxqTTcGJMwQ

hope this can be fixed at some point.

EDIT:

took a couple screen caps to show cleary what hits as a headshot and what misses.

MISS (a hit would have taken off the helmet) (this is after firing, when the recoil returned to the point of fire)
[img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v186/wyldeman7/rage_headshot_miss.png[/img]

HIT (this is a registered headshot, the helmet came off) (this is after firiing, when the recoil returned to the point of fire)
[img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v186/wyldeman7/rage_headshot_hit.png[/img]

image tags don't work?

EDIT#2: Found the bug. if you leave the 360 pad enabled for driving.....then it somehow messes up the hit boxes or hit reg. disabling the 360 pad totally fixed it. but now either I have to drive with the keyboard or disable/enable the pad a million times a playthrough. id, please fix!!!! keeping the pad enabled for driving but shooting with the mouse is the boss setup.

That's funny, Fallout 3 had the same problem where they tried to program bullet drop, but got things backwards and ended up with rising bullets instead.

Added this to the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1237649-what-we-need-id-to-patch-in-for-the-pc/, so hopefully they're paying attention.

The part at "Huh"has nothing to do with the bullet but the foliage you;re trying to shoot through.

And really you expect that every bullet you fire hits the exact point of the aim? Wouldn't that be a bit to simple and re-coil / sway less?

There's nothing wrong with the aim of the weapons and where the bullet goes, this simple isn't Modern Warfare or CoD like title where all bullets fly straight at the point where you;re aiming, There's a little more to it here with RAGE as you can not expect the bullets to hit exactly where you aim.
.
As i said before it's an bug/error with the foliage not the weapons, 99% of your movie you're trying to shoot through foliage

So in short this isn't a BUG.

So it's something like foliage getting in way of line of sight, acting like a solid object?

sounds like they didn't completely remove the auto aim code that is most likely in the console versions...

also did u think that maybe some enemies have stronger armor on and it takes more than 1 shot to kill them?

First off, the foliage thing. One shot was through foliage and that shot hit. Not a foliage issue at all.

Second....of course I know it takes more than one shot. The first headshot takes off the helmet, the second headshot kills. I clearly show when shots hit or miss, as it's easy to tell. Characters react to getting hit well and it's easy to tell if you've hit them and if it in fact registered as a headshot.

Lastly, there is no bullet deviation to speak of with single shots like that. (or there should be. That should come into play while spraying. Even in the most realistic of games that first shot should be dead on unless there is bullet drop etc)

I've been playing fps's for a very long time and know how they work quite well. Either the head hitbox doesn't match the mesh (ie it's quite low) or the bullet goes nowhere near the reticle at times.

Take the shot where I zoomed all the way in and aimed squarely in the middle of his head. You can notice a couple things. 1. It didn't hit because the character didn't react at all and the helmet clearly didn't come off. 2. Even if there was a fair amount of bullet deviation.....his head took up most of the scope so it would have covered any bit of deviation they have programmed in.

This is some sort of bug or issue.

(surely not do to changing my field of view or weapon scale to fit that view? That stuff should be purely cosmetic)

I agree with the OP. Shots should always go where your reticule is unless there's something in the way. Even in games with "aim wobble" this is true. It's also true in real life. This is very clearly a bug.

figured it out!

I enable my 360 controller for when I drive. m/keyboard when I shoot, controller to drive/race. instead of constantly enabling/disabling. that throws it off somehow. disabling the gamepad did it.

I would LOVE a patch where I could keep my controller enabled for driving and headshots still work 100% of the time.

Ya I noticed this since the patch. I didn't see this before the patch.
But when looking at my stats, before the patch & head shot count it was way low from what I actually had done.
So there may also be a bug with the head shot count to stats. I probably did 90/100 head shots, showed only 6 in stats. I was WTH?
and this is doing the game from start to finish. I haven't check stats since the update. So I have no idea if its changed.
I have also uninstalled/deleted Rage & reinstalled from scratch just yesterday, so I'm not sure if any thing has changed on the stats part.
But the head shot is defiantly off.

ok, so I'm still trying to debugg this issue.

Some say they don't experience it.......some say that enabling the controller actually makes it easier to headshot. sooooo, this made me think it was on my end. so I cleared all my launch options so it's totally vanilla rage.

I don't started the game yet so I don't know...
is this a bug that happen only if a gamepad is connected?

If I use a PC with a mouse only, will I see this bug?
