RogueAssassin question

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:23 am

I am making a Breton rogue assassin. My question is: am I able to be a good assassin using strictly daggers as my only weapon? Does it fit the traditional assassin role play? (I know role playing is I you make of it but I'm talking from a stereotypical pov). Also if somebody could link me to the page where people are blogging their characters that would be awesome as I am going to document my character and blog his "journal" entries. I don't want to hybrid bow and daggers, I played a mmo perfect world where I was an assassin and he used duel daggers and I want to carry over that lay style. So how doable is it in Skyrim?

in the sneak tree you get 15x damage for daggers on a sneak attack, that is the only reason i've found daggers useful. they just seem weak.

It's tough initially without the perks, but once you get a couple perks into the Sneak tree, a single dagger can have a multiplier as high as 30x which pretty much ensures you can assassinate anybody or anything so long as you remain unseen. Therefore, to answer your question, yes, dagger-only assassins are not only viable, they are extremely powerful. They just need a while to get powered up.

Maybe use duel short swords as backup when you cannot get a sneak multiplier? That way you can still specialize as a duel wielding short blade assassin.

A problem you may have as a daggers-only assassin would be dragons. Can't backstab them if they are in the air.

Great! I'll be making one then :)
I'm curious how ever.. Dragons, are they gonna [censored] my light armor wearing dual wielding dagger ass? D: LMAO. Ways to kill them with daggers such as poisons and all but how effective can poisons be on them?

Edit: ninja'd lol

Again edit: would it be outside of assassin role play to use dual swords? I haven't seen a short sword in Skyrim..

That's so unfair man. I want those gloves but I don't want to be associated with the DB.

For the DB gloves, can you disenchant it and learn that enchantment?

Yes but you need alot of health and high quality armor and daggers, with Archery for a backup.

If your light armor + one handed is pretty high then it shouldn't be a problem on adept difficulty
Archery is pretty useful too. Not like Oblivion where it takes 10 arrows to kill something.
But if you're just using daggers and worried about hitting dragons then you should get

Spoiler
A shout from the MQ that disables the dragons from flying

Guys I just had a great role play idea! Instead of role playing an assassin only based character.. Play as a ninja based character. It really opens up the role play opportunities in Skyrim. A ninja can join the companions and still be in role, thieves guild and still remain in role, dark brotherhood and still be in role and if you plan on using any magic the mages college and still remain within the aspects of the characters role play :D
I finally found my calling in Skyrim. Ninjas can use greatsword for when the crap hits the fan or where daggers just wouldn't be suitable. Omg this sounds like such a fun role play to me lol. Sorry for a long wall of text of just what seems to be an awesome role playing idea

I think the challenge is to sneak up on dragons and kill them. I've only read that dragons eventually have to land, so maybe it is possible to backstab them.

Yes poisons may not work as well because I tried backstabbing one with the paralyze poison but he resisted it (the dragon due to certain events was already on the ground). But that could be because my paralyze poison is weak. There is also a poison that weakens your resistance to poison. Maybe that will help.

Again edit: would it be outside of assassin role play to use dual swords? I haven't seen a short sword in Skyrim..

Well if your sneak attacks with daggers cannot take down an enemy, you have to switch to swords in a normal combat.

That is up to you to decide. For me an assassin is someone who can kill efficiently in a variety of situations. If you duel wield daggers and focus on one handed duel wielding perks, all the bonuses will be present for swords. Duel swords may come in handy if you are detected and swarmed by enemies that require more lethal killing power for close quarters combat.

You simply cant get backstabs on everything my char is a 30x backstab, and you can't do it on most tough creatures, Giants, mammoths, dragons etc. they will detect you even in the black of night directly behind them with 60 sneak and full + sneak gear.

As an assassin I only use daggers in houses and dungeons really (in combination with bow). Swords/bow in the open world.

I'm playing a thief/assassin character and I've never used a dagger. The 15x multiplier is easily surpassed by the x3 and range of bows. Not to mention that attacking from stealth with a bow usually doesn't give away your stealth, and thus you may get to add in a couple more sneak attacks before the mob finally finds you.

That's strange. My sneak is 90 and I can sneak behind giants easily.

Did you take the various sneak perks?

Try using a power attack to sneak attack a giant. That's 2x extra backstab damage.

Go with a thief/mage. I sneak attack with a single dagger (x30 from the DB gear) and if I can't kill it in one (or two quick) swipes, I cast Invisibility, position myself behind 'em, then when I'm fully hidden and they've relaxed, I sneak attack again and usually waste them.

Oh, and yeah the Ninja idea is cool, that's why I went Thief/Mage (Illusion and Alteration). After I finish with the DB I'm going to train him up on dual-one-handed weapons and he'll be ready for anything.

sure is! especially if you craft! any craft will do, but I've focused on smithing for my rogue (RP reasons) and it has worked out amazingly well.
