[REQ] Re-marry fix

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:45 pm

Good day,

So, one day at my house, my spouse Ysolda was asleep. Suddenly a terrifying werewolf invaded my home and tore her apart like doll made of jelly (that werewolf may or may not have been me). After grieving for an appropriate amount of time (5 to 10 minutes), my character is single and ready to mingle.... except that he can't re-marry anymore.

So yeah, I'm not sure if it's a bug or something, but if your spouse dies, you cannot re-marry even if you're wearing the Amulet and have a high disposition with the potential mate. I even tried forcing it with the console command. I guess the game locks you in the "married" state even after you have lost your wife.

There must be some sort of easy fix for this, however I'm not savvy enough to find it. If someone could help with this problem, it would be much appreciated.

Should be much easier to find with the Creation Kit, I've been using FNVEdit to find most stuff I need. My guess is the marriage variable is a quest variable as it is not an actor value or global/game setting.

I tried

resetquest on:

74793 "RelationshipMarriage"
7431B "RelationshipBreakUp"
21382 "RelationshipMarriageFIN"
7404E "RelationshipMarriageWedding"

The first and last two are the ones that seem to matter, I ran a SQV (ShowQuestVar) on them and they store the information like your spouses house, your spouses REF id. Resetting "RelationshipMarriageFIN" will cause your current spouse to stop acting as your spouse but it still doesn't enable me to remarry even after resetting all of those quests.

I'm sure it will become more clear with the Creation Kit.

I know this isn't helpful at all, but you've got me laughing like an idiot over here with this post.

Thanks, I like your style

This seems like a pretty big oversight, especially considering NPC companions can die from random dragon attacks, or even while out adventuring with you.

Not to mention how many polygamists , straight or otherwise, find the whole situation offensive.

So short sighted of them.

What does that have to do with what I said?

If your spouse can die, it seems reasonable to be able to get another one. I don't understand why that warrants sarcasm.

Reading what he said, I don't really think he was being sarcastic towards you... I'm sure you're aware how text causes certain nuances of speech to be lost in translation, so to speak...

It is curious though. They cater to Heteros, Homos, and Bi's, but not polygamists or widowers.

Edit:

Also, what you said about random dragon attacks killing your spouse....

I can't tell you how long I wandered around trying to find a damned dragon to incinerate her, so I could at least CLAIM that ice storm of mine was intended for the dragon and not to aid her passage into Sovengard. They're never there when you want them. Always there when you don't.

Perhaps they weren't expecting you to murder your wife or get killed on the way to your house. Either way it won't be hard to fix with the CK.

Then they would have been paying absolutely no attention to gamers nowadays. Lol

Agreed. This is what makes games like this and Deus Ex so great, the ability to do anything and have the developers smile and say "We thought of that" when you see the resulting game feature. Not "We didn't expect you to do this" Why not make the wife an unkillable essential then?
