Recommend me a joystick for space combat sims

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:08 am

Hey folks! With the recent release of Wing Commander Darkest Dawn and also the fact that I have a bunch of space combat sims in my GOG account like Freespace and Wing Commander and I also still have the old X-Wing games in hardcopy form (except X-Wing Alliance because I loaned the games to a friend and he lost that one, but I found a download for it that'll hopefully work and hold me over until he finds it or buys me a new one) I got to missing the fact that I no longer have a joystick. Also missed having a joystick to fly vehicles in Battlefield 3.

I used to have a Microsoft Wingman Force - you know, that joystick with the massive base that weight about the size of a few bricks and shook the desk whenever you got force feedback from a game - but it died years ago and for whatever reason I just have never gotten around to replacing it.

So what would you guys recommend? From my initial research of what's popular in joysticks these days, I shouldn't have to spend much more than $50. I'm looking for something with at least 10-12 buttons, something that'll hopefully last a while without having to replace it.

I decided on thehttp://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Extreme-Joystick-Silver-Black/dp/B00009OY9U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333663058&sr=8-1. It got lots of great reviews and looked like good value for $30 from Amazon.

Hell yeah---I remembered when I bought my first Xbox unit I was looking for that controller. I remember X-play showing off one that had blue and green lights.

That's the one I use. It's a very nice joystick and it's only about $30 on Amazon.

I think I might get one of those too. I used to just use a mouse for flight sims.

Yeah, I had a wireless Xbox 360 controller with the adapter that I had tried using in the past for Freespace when I bought the series via GOG and I decided that it's just not the same as holding a stick in your hand. I miss the awesome feeling of control you get from that. Can't wait to get it! svcks that with it being Easter weekend shipping is probably gonna be slow and I'll probably be playing http://www.gog.com/gamecard/legend_of_grimrock by the time the thing finally comes to me!
