What is this "message"?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 9:06 am

First of all, hello guys. This is my problem;

I bought Rage yesterday and i tried to launch it. But it gave me an error message, saying "Rage has encountered a problem an has to be shut down. We are sorry for this."
At first i thought maybe it's because i didnt patch the game with the latest update. I updated it. It gave me the same message again. Then i updated my videocard, but it didn't work.

Can this be because my pc is weak? I.e., can my pc be too weak to launch the game? Here's its features;

3070 MB RAM
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53 GHz (2 CPUs)
ATI Raedon HD 2600 PRO 512 / 32

Thank you all in advance for your help.

I think I got a similar problem. I get an error saying "wglCreateContextAttribsARB failed" in the console at startup. I think that has something to do with the openGL initialization. I thought RAGE is using DX!? If I press Quit to close the console the Visual Studio Debugger will start.

Here's my system specs:

Intel Core2 6600 @ 2,4GHz
2GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 7950 GT

Update your video card drivers. But I personally think your videocards might be too old for this game.

No, RAGE uses OpenGL, like all id Software games.

I got the latest driver installed. I don't think my GFX card is too old. I still think it's an openGL problem. Why should my card not support openGL???

@Falcon2045
i did it too :D and i think the same as you think. The only thing i doubted is that, on the error message it didnt mention about any hardware, it just said the game has to be shut down. So i wanted to learn about it.

First of all RAGE is OpenGL based just like every id Engine and Game.

Your graphics cards are too old and below minimum spec.

http://www.bethblog.com/index.php/2011/09/06/rage-system-requirements/ you find the official system requirements.

Both systems feature minimum requirement processors and below minimum specs graphics cards.

Your GPU does support OpenGL, but as with DirectX there are different versions of OpenGL and your card only features an older version.

If there is an error in any application running in windows, it will surely be logged in the event viewer in more detail. The run command for the event viewer is "eventvwr" which will start if you type it in the search bar in the start menu and press enter.
