Idiotic performance fix.

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 12:56 am

I can't believe that this is what finally fixed my performance issues(and led me to discover the game-breaking mouse sensitivity issues), but I've found a way to get 70-100 FPS on max settings.

When you load a game alt+tab out, then alt+tab back in.

It boosted me from 25 FPS on any settings to 70+ in the starting area with everything maxed, except for AA which caused transparent armor for some reason(FXAA still on).

Specs:
i7 2600k
6970 2gig
8 gigs ram
win 7 64 bit

Go into your catalyst manager and change AA from adaptive to multi sample to get rid if the transparent /flickering textures.

This is very strange indeed. The only thing I can think of that could be related to this is the Steam in-game overlay; have you tried disabling it? (Right click on Skyrim in Steam -> Properties -> uncheck it).

What's the mouse issue?

The Y-axis sensitivity is based on FPS while the X-axis isn't. Because indoor FPS is so much higher I find that when I'm indoors moving the mouse along the Y-axis at all shoots me to the ceiling or the floor.

Go into your catalyst manager and change AA from adaptive to multi sample to get rid if the transparent /flickering textures.

I already did and still had issues, but the game looks just fine with FXAA alone.

Can anyone else who is having issues test this? I'm curious if this fix is specific to my system. All you have to do is alt tab out, then back in once you load a game.
