i like to make lots of characters try this for couple hours try that for couple hours etc.

But save files is just one big list, would be nice if there was a menu that differentiated between character names and there respective save files

this is a problem I've had thru out fallout/elder scrolls titles that I've played

Another thing I'd really like is a "Quick Start" mod.

Fortunately I was smart enough to save a game right before character creation, but if I didn't I'd have to watch that entire beginning scene over and over and over again.

If you have it on computer you can enter in console save (name of save) so for example type save Tom, then you will know it's a toms character save and do this for the rest of yours I know it isn't ideal but for now that's how im forced to do it.

You might want to try a savegame manager. I use http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15. It's always a smart idea to backup your saves before trying this kind of thing, but I want to stress that the program doesn't eat savegames despite what some commenters claim - you just have to copy your autosaves/quicksaves by hand when you get started with the program otherwise they don't appear in your scanned character profile. This is because the program doesn't know which character owns your autosaves/quicksaves when you run the scan, because they aren't named, unlike the regular saves you make from the menu. Check the comments thread at the nexus for more info.

Or, if you'd prefer not to use a third-party application, you could do it by hand: basically when you select a character profile in the save manager it changes the "SLocalSavePath" entry in the "[General]" section of Skyrim.ini to a subfolder of your "Documents\My Games\Skyrim" folder, named after your character. All you have to do is change that entry to a folder you've made containing a character's savegames when you want to play that character. Any time you save the game it will write to the folder you have specified. If you want to go back to playing a different character, or a new character, just change the "SLocalSavePath" entry. So, if you set SLocalSavePath to "Saves\Ted", your saves will go into the "Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves\Ted" folder.
