AMD 5770 outperforming AMD 6950

Hi. I've played Rage on two machines. both on the same settings. For some reason it's running faster on the slower machine. Here are the system specs:

System A
CPU: i7 870
Memory: 16GB DDR3 @ 1066MHz
GPU: AMD 5750 1GB
Disk: SATAII mechanical drive
OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Driver: AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview 2
Resolution: 2560x1440
Min FPS: 35
Avg FPS: 50

System B
CPU: i7 870
Memory: 8GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz
GPU: AMD 6950 2GB (MSI Twin Frozr II)
Disk: Plextor M2S SSD
OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Driver: AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview 2
Resolution: 2560x1440
Min FPS: 25
Avg FPS: 40

Both systems suffer from some texture pop-in, but it's only minor - you have to be turning really quickly and looking for it, so it's not a problem.

What I'm interested is how System A could possibly be running it faster than System B! System B has been benchmarked and achieves scores you would expect of the setup, so it doesn't appear to be set up incorrectly.

I know it's early days in this game's release and there's been a lot issues, but it still seems odd. Anyone have any ideas? Is the 6950 running the game particularly poorly?

Cheers.

EDIT: It's actually a 5750, not a 5770. Which makes it stranger!

Turn off Hyperthreading in the BIOS and see what result you get, gave me a constant 60fps.

Thanks, I just tried this, and it gave me an extra 4-8 FPS.

That just about makes it playable for me now, but it's still a lot slower than it should be.

Any idea why this is though? Something to do with some of their settings that set to a value based on the number of cores available?

No idea, sorry.

I stumbled across it, started a thread suggesting people do it to increase their frame rate and pretty much got ignored.

Thanks, I've replied there with my results. Hopefully the thread will pick up as more people should know about this.

Given the number of issues, the board admins should really be collating some of these techniques that are working for some people into a sticky...
