Can anybody help me out? The main objective is to talk to Alvor, but when I do nothing happens, nothing changes in my journal.. is this normal or are you supposed to get a mention..

Not everyone that has the game yet pirated it, many stores have been breaking street date. As for your question OP, try reloading it to an earlier save, other than that maybe the day 1 patch will fix it. Oh and, you lucky S.O.B.

The game does not officially release until Friday. Chances are very good you aren't going to get an answer until then.
