[REQ] Revamp controls for PC

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:43 am

Two things I've heard other people complain about and could use a fix

1. In most games Mouse1 is attack and Mouse2 is secondary fire. Bethesda wanted to keep this I assume, which wasn't the worst of ideas. Thing is, your right hand seems to be your primary fire, thus Mouse1. To me this is very confusing because your left button is now your right hand and your right button is your left hand. I switched this around for the sake of magic usage, but now I need to attack with my Mouse2 and block with Mouse1 and shooting an arrow is done with Mouse2. So if someone is capable of doing this, I propose that either with a shield+sword, the shield is wielded in the right hand and the left button is used to attack when wielding a bow.

Or perhaps alot easier: Different controls can be set for when using 2 hands or using a bow+sword/shield.

2. I don't know if this is a bug or a 'feature', but in the favorites menu it's very frustrating or near impossible to assign the correct spell/weapon to the correct hand. I would suggest to make it possible to use Mouse1 to equip/unequip the favorite spell/weapon you are hovering over to your left hand and Mouse2 to equip it to your right hand. Either that or an unequip button that unequips a selected spell completly instead of just for the left hand.

Thoughts?

Just remap M1 to left hand and M2 to right hand, that's what I did and it works perfectly. You don't need a mod to do this.

No it doesn't, because as I explained, if you do that you can only block with your M1 and attack with M2 or shoot your bow with M2, which is rather annoying and doesn't make sense if you are playing a hybrid character.

And how would this fix the second part, which I'm sure is annoying for alot of magic users.

Shield is in your left hand. Block with left click.
Draw the arrow back with right hand. Right click.

Clearly a difficult concept.

Another annoying bug is that if you move left and right from 'a' and 'd' to any other buttons, you will still lockpick with 'a' and 'd' which makes no sense at all.

You press m1 to assign/unassign to m1, and m2 to assign/unassign to m2. It's already like that for all spells in the favourites menu and in the magic menu. Might need to reinstall your game or something if it's not working for you. Or make sure you've unchecked the xbox controller thing in the options.

I also reassigned the left mouse button for left hand and right mouse for right hand. Doesn't bother me that I need to right click to fire arrows/use 2h weapon, you get used to it very quickly.

Yeah, this doesn't need a mod as it's already in the game.

Didn't say it was difficult, just that it's not natural and seems abit odd considering how the previous games were handled. Perhaps I played too much oblivion and morrowind, but I find it rather difficult to get used to this.

Yes I have it unchecked, from the research I did it seemed like a common bug?

It's right there when you search for "dual cast", so seems to me I'm not the only one with this problem :)

I think that is already corrected with a mod. Look for it on the skyrim nexus site, it should be there. Ofcourse a general overhaul of the controls and/or UI for the pc should have all those in it.
