F5 Issues : Othor Games

Im having freezes from time to time trying to quick save games (F5).
The Rage.exe is still running using 50% of my quadcore cpus, but the 'wingstick' is still, not rotating, and the game is 'Not responding' on task manager.
ALT+TAB is working so I can stop the process from Task Manager...
But its a big issue if trying to save the game to avoid crashes during game... Make the game crashing!

Frustrating.
Pressing F5 to quick save
Pressing ESC to go to the menu to save
Clicking on a new slot to save
=
Freeze.
The game stop 'to respond', cpus usage at 50%.

Its happening not always, Im trying to save often, but its frustrating to be not sure to have the chance to save a game to avoid crashes during.

Yes, I'm having the same issue. It's a crap shoot if the game will freeze or not. The game breaking issues are 3-4 layers deep.

And unfortunately, it's not an option for me to play this on the console. Aiming with an over-sized thumbtack ain't my cup of tea.

Actually I had 1 crash playing
and a lot of CTDs:
- saving the game from menu or F5
- loading new levels or side missions.
It seems that when I enter a new level, or side missions, the autosave worked, but then CTD.
Im able to restart the game from the autosave.

Its a sin have this kind of problems, since it seems I able to play without too much issues.

Agreed. And I would bet that the crash/freezing during save is unrelated to the drivers, but what do I know? Man, what a pain.

If you aren't using this launch option, you should start. It saves a lot of time now that we are crashing every 5-10 minutes.

I've been getting the same problem, from what i can tell the game is fine with quick saving or loading up a new area in the first couple of minutes of play. But after that its very prone to freezing up and crashing when loading new zones. Dosen't seems like a driver or setting fix to me, looks like we'll need to wait for another patch. :banghead:

It seems 1 out of 3 times I save the game, it freezes (before writing the save). So basically, I'm playing the entire game twice, piece by piece. I would love an acknowledgement of this issue. My worry is finding out that it's only a few people, and I'm waiting for a patch that will never come. This topic isn't getting much action.

My specs :

Win XP SP3
I5 750
HD 5850 1Gb
4 Gb Ram

any idea about any upcoming patches that could solve this problem? i've tried every single solution out there and every single one of the made the game even worse!

I doubt that that the issue with saving your game has anything to do with drivers or 3D settings (but it certainly is possible). I'm picturing some design flaw in unifying PC saving with console and tablet saving.

I have not heard any official statement about this issue. I even wrote Bethesda support directly about it and received no response. Steam denied my refund request.

I have the same thing on a ati hd 5850 , amd quadcore 3.2 GHz, 4GB Ram. It will freeze about 1 out of 4 times saving or changing maps. That makes a mini game in the game. Will it save or will it crash. This makes the game practically unplayable for me. Waiting for a solution. Also a lot of times changing map will make the textures go really bad.

For this problem, Bethesda recommends eradicating the game from your computer and re-installing. Has anyone tried this?

Doing that made no difference to me.

The only thing that 100% worked and allowed me to save any time I liked and "esc" to the menu at my leisure was to make a shortcut to rage.exe and set compatibility mode to Windows 98/ME. I have no idea why that should work but I have had 2 crash and freeze free days since doing that.
