Has pre-load started yet

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:24 am

Hello All

I just signed up 3 mins ago, I have seen post elswhere on the net stating the D2D pre-load has started yet the Steam one hasn't,
can anyone confirm this, I have the game pre-ordered from www.ozgameshop.com as steam ar too expensive for me ( I'm Australian) and I prefer a
Physical copy to a D2D digital version, not that D2d are expensive, they would have been my first choice for digital if they werre selling to Australia
But I'm IP restricted from buying Skyrim from them, probably Steams fault.
Any who if anyone has more details on the pre-loaded, please post a reply I have friends searching for more info and I'm just trying to help them out
I would use steam forums but we all knopw that they were hacked the other day and are currently down till who knopw when and this was the next best place to ask.

Edit: If this is in the wrong section, can a mod please move it to the right one.

I'm loading from steam right now. Lots of people are; there's a huge thread in the general forum.

BTW: welcome to the forums.

Steam preload has started. I'm at 13% at around 800kps. It's been pretty steady for the download so far. Certainly doesn't seem to be a horrible load on their servers yet, and the preload has been going for a while before I started too.

I actually waited to purchase the game until preload started, and there wasn't any delay in buying then starting the preload.

I'm not sure if it is right section. But yes steam won't release until 11-11-11. Console versions are selling early in some areas. But PC Wong be able to be plated til 11-11-11. Hope that helps.

Edit: I didn't realize steam pre-load started. Nevermind then.

Yeah I just read some of the Post in general chat, also thx for the welcome.
Also I'm hoping the site i bought from will ship it out to me today as there shipping takes 4-12 working days,
(not including weekends) to get to Australia so if they shipped now I still wouldn't get the game till after the
11-11-11 most likely it will arrive after the 20-11-11 (thats 11-20-11 for the US Forums members).

Pre-load exists so that we can play at midnight exactly while other people are handing money to someone at at a store, waiting for the transaction, grabbing the box, walking back to their method of transportation, travel back home (trying not to look too much at the box), getting home, opening the box, pulling out the DVD, putting it into a Disc-based drive, waiting for the disc to load, launching the launcher, selecting install, waiting for install.... waiting for install... waiting for install... waiting for install........ steam has detected an update... wating for update... waiting for update... play.

Having a disc is certainly nice - but I much prefer Bethesda getting a bigger percentage of my money, thanks to Steam Vs. Retail transaction rates. I still backup my files so I can play with or without Steam (backups officially supported by the Steam framework), and I do much prefer the interface of Steam to shuffling DVDs for installs.

The Steam team really does do a good job to offer real benefits compared to other legitimate play methods. You can really own the game, can freely modify the game (and turn off updates), can pre-load, and can be comfortable knowing you're helping the developers more than most available methods.

Actually, depending on what timezone you're in, you may be playing hours earlier than somebody who goes to a midnight sale at a store ;) Steam is activating at the same time in every timezone in the region. I expect to be playing at 9 on Thurs, when my local gamestop will still be closed, afaik.

As i said I bought the DVD version because it's $45Au cheaper than on steam and I wanted the Cloth map that comes with it.

If steam didn't charge Australian gamersDouble what they charge US gamers We Aussies might just buy it from them, but there
are thousands of us that refuse to pay double the price, weather it be because of stupid laws here in AUS or be it greedy Steam/ Distributors that decide the prices
we don't see why we should pay double the price, side note thenew Batmand game was $50usd the other day on steam and a day later it was double at $99.95 USD, yet US gamers were reporting on the steam forums they were only paying $50USD, so why do we get slugged double(it can't be due to exchange rate as the AU is getting 1.04usd) just cos we are Australian, the New Zealand gamers are paying $127 for bat man which is worse although that could be more to do with there excahge rate.

Anyway till steam start charging the same price as they chanrge the US gamers I won't be buying from them, even buying from the game developers stores is just as expensive.

I for one don't own a "MONEY TREE" like the Developers/ Steam seam to think, that is why I bought from the UK for half the price.

Sorry to have gone of a rant like that but, that's what we (Australian) gamers face every time a new tile is released. Steam is guaranteed to be double the price of everyone else.

I love Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls Series, but if there charge me double the price for their games on steam I guess i will have to buy them else where.

EDIT: I forgot to Add D2D won't allow me to buy from tyhem as I'm IP restricted, which they say is not there doing but my governments/ the game Developers doing which is lame as steam don't have that problem
