Okay, soz, final quest in the assassins guild right? It is at this exact point when I realized "Holy crap, why do I not have any options here?" To actually proceed you HAVE to kill the emperor. To be perfectly honest, after meeting him, I would rather not kill him. He is in my opinion one of the most respectable characters in the game, and the only one so far I didn't feel indifferent about killing. And he pulls that status off in like 5 lines! To those out there like "well durp moron, you're doing the assassins guild quest. Expect that kind of stuff. You can't do the quest and then expect to change it in a way that wouldn't flow with the entire guild chain." And to them I say why not? This is the first quest where it isn't the Dark Brotherhood any more, it's YOUR Dark Brotherhood. But this isn't JUST about the assassins guild quest, I believe I read another thread about how little choice there is in the outcome of quests. (not the actions mind you, there's plenty of choice to be made there) No matter what you do, most of the quests end in the exact same manner. This is the first time I really noticed this because this is the first time I actually said to myself "No. I am not killing this man. In 5 or 6 lines of dialogue he has proven himself to me as, to be honest, i really don't know how to describe him. Epic? Maybe. But in 5 or so lines, he made me not want to kill him. Why can't I instead kill the man who wanted him dead, and report back to him before going off and remaking the dark brotherhood? What if then the night mother is quite upset, and then I was all like "The dark brotherhood needs Sithis, not you." Or some random crap like that? What I am truly trying to say here is that when you are dealing with quests (Especially quest like this where you make something or someone you have to eliminate way more agreeable than what you are eliminating them for) you need to have alternate outcomes. Even in guild quests. Especially in guild quests! These are the big quests that you can count on players doing.
Let me make a suggestion instead of simply whining. The main quest is great. However, you need to become the stalwart hero of the land etc etc. That's simply the way main quests roll in this kind of game. But when it comes to the side and especially guild quests, why is there only one way to become guild master? The same outcome is not required of a guild quest as the main story line. Why not have an outcome where you are ostracized by your guild because you went for your own personal gain? something like that. Please Bethesda, I beg of you. Don't rely on the modding community for this because while there are some superb modders out there, nothing they come up with would be as good as what the dev team could crank out. As a devoted elder scrolls fan I ask you this: please take questing to the next level. Why Should people look to Bioware for an amazing story and diverse options in a game? You guys both have the talent, and the potential to make the elder scrolls series outdo everything in both game play and story. Thank you very, very much for your time. And please take my suggestion to heart, I know not a single fan of TES would dislike the change.
