Gameboy Games

I have a question about Gameboy games. Eventually, will all Gameboy games start to lose functions like saving? My Pokemon Silver lost the ability to save 2 or 3 years ago, along with my Red. It's now happening to my Pokemon Ruby, as it says the internal battery no longer functions. Eventually, will all Gameboy games cease to function?

They won't stop working, but the games that use battery backup may lose save data. You could probably replace the internal battery though.

Only Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal have lost the saving function, I still play Blue/Red/Yellow(If I could find it) and they all work perfectly after more than 10 years in my possession. Haven't tried any of the newer ones but maybe you should contact Nineto/Game Freak about it.

The save games and such require voltage from the internal battery so if it is dead those features won't work. You can replace it but it is difficult and messy.

Internal battery in the game or in the gameboy?

If it's the game, I'm best not playing with that :P

The battery in my copy of Super Mario Land has never worked, which was one of the biggest disappointments of my childhood.

But http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJMqww1lS6g doesn't use save functions...does it? Or do you mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRvpqP9WJjk? If so, I feel for you. If http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAios3EiSt0(One of the best ever), I really feel for you.

My Pokemon Gold stopped saving. I played the hell out of that game though so it was understandable.

It never saved the high score. Mainly it meant any high score competition I had with my brother on long car trips had to be written down. When you're a kid, that's just simply too much to ask for in the back of a minivan when you're in the middle of Colorado.

Oh hey, yeah you're right. I didn't really think about that because mine did the same thing. I thought the game just didn't have a battery backup.

Same. Mine got flung around now and then as well because I'd visit the twoers in the wrong order, permantly blocking off access to Oh-Ho and releasing the Thre Legendary Dogs too early :ahhh:

My Crystal stopped saving. Surprisingly though, my Red still saves.
