Smithing Issues

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 10:41 pm

Level: 30
Blacksmithing: 100
Perks: Heavy Armor line up to Dragon (the right path) and the Enchanting weapons perk

I cannot upgrade the Mace of Molag Bal nor can I upgrade the Nightingale Blade past FLAWLESS.
I have the guide and I should be able to upgrade these both to LEGENDARY. I even was able to upgrade my Dragon armor to Legendary, but these 2 weapons I cannot.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug??

Hey buddy sorry I have the same issue, but i believe that may pertain to yur enchanting skill if it's to be at legendary.

I don't think you can upgrade weapons twice (a flawless one -> legendary one). And you can't get Legendary with basic blacksmithing, you need something like Blacksmith's Draught/potion/whatever or items that boost how much you can upgrade a weapon/piece of armor.

You can't upgrade an item twice with the same enhancement (flawless -> flawless), but you can "re-upgrade" when your Smithing skill gets high enough for the next level (flawless -> legendary). As for the OP, my skills aren't high enough to test this, but from what I understand of the game mechanics you should be able to upgrade those items to Legendary.

The bow I hand crafted and upgraded all the way to Legendary so I do know for a fact that I can upgrade all the way to Legendary.

I have taken a Blacksmith's drought potion and for some strange reason it only allows me to upgrade the Dwarven Bow that is already legendary even further, but I cannot upgrade the Mace.

So I am finally realizing that this is probably a bug that has rendered my awesome weapon useless in a few more levels when I find a simple unechanted weapon that I can upgrade to legendary...

Thanks Bethesda

It's unfortunate, but it should get patched (assuming it is indeed a bug and not something we're all missing). I'd hang onto the weapon, even if you find a better unenchanted one, and hopefully you'll have an answer/patch soon to make it useful again.

I really do hope that Bethesda is able to patch this game and fix a number of problems....it isn't fair that I am forced to use lesser weapons when I can't upgrade a weapon even with the proper pre-requisites

My smithing isn't quite that high yet, I'm still at 60. Trying to level smithing and enchating together (that extra effort perk is gonna be a beast.) I do however have the mace, if I get smithing to 100 soon, at least before you find answers. I'll come back and let you know what I find in my game.

I've since stopped playing. I get 5-10 frames per second anywhere now and even less in combat; file save is 8344 kb.

Returning today and getting my money back hopefully. Shame I wasted so many hours to not even complete the game.
