[REQ]Corpse decay

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 11:01 pm

I'd like to see a mod that removes corpses after a certain period of time. A more advanced version of it could show decay (ex go from standard model, to a zombie model, to a skeleton, to gone). I'd be happy with the ability to dispose of a corpse like in Morrowind.

For the love of Talos, yes! I killed a group of wolves near Winterhold, and when I returned (about two weeks later in game) they were still there. I can literally track my progress by following the trail of dead. At the very least, a dispose of corpse feature would be great.

@Pudi:
In the absence of a better option, you can use the "Disable" console command on those wolf corpses to hide them.

The console can be opened via the ~ key (to the left of the 1 on most keyboards). All you need to do in there is click on the corpse, type "Disable" and press return. If the wrong thing disappears, then run the "Enable" command again, then move a bit closer to the corpse and try to select it again.

This is a feature that was partially complete in MMM for F3. I'd be happy to do this for Skyrim, but I'd need an artist to produce:

* Decayed textures of all creatures in the game -- or alternatively, a decayed shader that can be applied to any model although I'm not sure how effective that would be in terms of visuals.
* Skeleton models and textures for all creatures in the game + a human skeleton for NPCs.

That's the majority of the work really. Getting them to show up over time and/or depending on cell reset status is just a matter of scripting.

There is already a human skeleton in the game.

Good idea.
I have this gigantic blood dragon skeleton in the entrance to the college of winterhold, and it's really annoying.

Love the idea, was thinking something similar but with the body being eaten by the wild life, so they leave you alone if they are feeding on a body, then a skeleton remains and disappears in the normal way.

Just a little note, things killed out in the wild should not have time to really decay, things will be eaten up by wildlife long before it has time to decay.
I'd suggest that after 1-2 days the corpse should be half eaten, 3-4 days skeleton parts should be in a decent wide area (the animals will have moved some parts around to eat in peace) and after a couple of more days they disappear too.

Love the idea but also like the dragon bones (and named npc's) sticking around as trophies on the floor....so am torn!
But definitely don't need that wolf I killed 20 months ago sticking around :P

Yes to this. I hope someone makes it happen; I know I'd certainly be grateful.

This is similar to how it worked in MMM for F3. In some instances an NPC's skeleton wouldn't appear at all (perhaps an animal dragged it elsewhere, for eg, and this helped with not littering too many skeletons and slowing down performance) and when skeletons did appear, their bone parts weren't always complete (again, perhaps creatures fought over it and ran off with their own piece).

If an artist provides the textures (and in the case of creatures, a modeler to provide the models) I can do the rest.
