Choppy Gameplay 10 minutes in

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 9:53 am

Haven't seen this problem posted yet but would like help if anyone knows where to point me.

Game gets laggy/choppy after about 10 minutes of playing.
GPU temps don't get about 60c on a 6870 1GB so it's not over heating which i thought might be the problem.
If I quit and load back a save it will work for another 10 minutes then start freezing up again.

All i could find was the problem might be a memory leak or caching problem?

updated drivers to 11.10 preview 2
applied custom configs then removed custom configs
made rage cache folder in appdate\local

on an
i5 2400
8GB DDR3
6870 1GB

frustrated because everything was working fine before moving to these updates now i don't know where it went wrong

did an uninstall through CCleaner and reinstalled with retail discs.
verified game cache through steam, gave an error "1 files failed to validate and will be reacquired"
defragmented HDD
bounced around different amd drivers deleting drivers with driver sweeper before reinstalling new drivers.

all I can think of is that the save files are on my C drive and steam and the game is saved on my D drive

can anyone help me........ :(

Does it work smoothly then 'freeze' for a few seconds? It supposed to be some ATI driver bug according to id Software. I had it but is disappeared for no particular reason. I would wait for ATI release fixed drivers.

I noticed some stuttering/choppiness aswell, but only while fighting in that garage level, but I honestly can't remember the name of it.

It's the same level as the one you fight in in the iPhone/iPad version of 'RAGE'.

Getting the same problem.

After the hideous teeth-pulling-session, that is the configuration mess of getting Rage actually to even work... after 10min you run into this. The only quote that comes to mind is: "Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!"... and the address is Id software at 515 Quality Assurance Lane...

First you get the game, it does not work. Then like the lemming consumer idiot you are, you happily hack away for days on end trying to fix it based on USER FORUM comments, configs, command line options etc. etc. Then on the third day of hacking it is resurrected! Happy joy and jubilation! Granted the textures still pop like [censored] and you're running on all together crappy graphics.. but hey at least you now have a frame rate you can try to see what the game is about. So one is happy and starts to see the game actually could be something good. So one finds his way back into the happy place in his mind. And then someone at Id farts and again all goes to hell.
Every 10m of playing the damn thing stalls so bad you don't even think of going to the over accelerated mouse menus (as it is impossible to hit any menu when the thing is stalling like hell) and you fall back to killing the process by hand.

In short: I personally am done. I'll nicely put the game away for a couple of weeks and wait for someone to fix it. If this does not happen I would prefer to get my money compensated in some form directly by Id. I cannot believe Bethesda let this slip under their name.

"Cluster f*#&"... under statement of the year.

New driver is out AMD Cat 11.10 Preview 3

Seems to fix the chopping and freezing issue I had shortly after starting to play.
frame rate seems to dip a little more, not as smooth, but at least it's playable now for more than 10 min at a time!!
