I FIXED MY ATI ISSUES!

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:58 am

Here are the issues i was having. This is all with the v2 ATI drivers.

1. Artifacts when playing the game. ( little squares of random images out of place flickering)
2. Crashing when zoning
3. Crashing when attempting to save
4. Losing ALL textures when zoning did happen.
5. Crashing to "Rage press enter" screen when attempting to zone. (2, 4, 5 were all random results of zoning)

Here are the steps i took to resolve the above.

1. I went to www.newegg.com and ordered a GTX570.
2. Uninstalled all ATI garbage off my system including using driver sweeper.
3. turned off computer.
4. ripped ATI 6870 out of computer.
5. Burned that crap card
6. Installed Nvidia GTX570
7. Installed NVIDIA rage beta drivers
8. Played RAGE PROBLEM FREE!

Same exact system and the only difference was the card maker. I know you guys will bash for taking the financial matters that i did to fix the issue but the monkeys ATI have writing their drivers should be taken out and beaten for all the crap they put their users through. The new V2 drivers from ATI was screwing up my other games and didn't allow this game to run at all! Totally inexcusable. I am now a nvidia customer for life.

See i have a 5670 and i got it running good on the 11.6 drivers. I turned off catalyst AI manually and used a config, the game ran at 30-50 fps with no rpoblems...until i hit power plant and it crashed everytime..so i went back in and installed the 11.10v2 drivers tweaked it up got it running at 60fps and very micro stutters that you really couldnt notice unless you noticed haha! Now im finished with the game and i want to play multiplayer again and freeze freeze freeze,I disable cat AI and the game runs fine but with the black artifacts! sigh when will it ever stop!! haha

I think I was using some ancient 10.x drivers first and the game wouldn't even boot, crashed each time I hit 'play'. :teehee:

Not too far in yet, so stuff may still get icky later. But for now I'm satisfied with how it is working out. :)

Sadly, I have all those issues. Now including the one where the game crashes when I attempt to enter the power plant. I'd get an nvidia card, but unfortunately I have a laptop. I guess I'm boned.

I have 2 AMD Radeon HD 6870's and you couldn't pay me to switch to Nvidia. And if you bring up Physx, then please exit my planet.

It's funny because it's true. There's no game that uses PhysX to such an extent that it gives any significant performance increase, unless it's a tech demo level with exaggerated amounts of PhysX objects.

Maybe they will make game called "Fog, Mist, and Rain" that will take full advantage of PhysX.

I cant remember if this game had one,but if it did then it would explain why AMD got shafted again in the development process...

I am of course refering to that god awful moment when you fire up a new game and see that Nvidia advert appear, usually spelling doom for the newly installed game.

It has nothing to do with the hardware.

I find it ironic that i had used Nvidia for years due to driver ATI issues only to have 2 7800 gtx cards die on me in 2 years then had 2 more 285 gtx die within a year span that finally pissed me off enough to go back to ATI despite there driver issues. I happily used this card until this game came out with 0 driver issues. This game happens to use opengl though which ati has always been weaker with ever since the ATI rage days. I will give it a few months and they will have opengl 4.2 working with all aspects till another game comes out that draws something different from it yet again then rinse repeat. All the rage haters blame the game for the graphics but a lot of it actually is in reality the drivers. There is plenty of reason to blame id bug wise but graphically i think its more ati dropping the ball with opengl as usual. We shouldn't have to tinker 50000 settings to get a game to work partially or correctly. Ati historically in these issues would take 4-8 weeks to fully fix a issue and looking at this game so far and the updates to "fix " it seems to be on track for there norm. FYI i have not tried the newest BETA driver cuz after my issue with the last one im afraid to:P

I always wondered what it is ATI does because some of there cards get fixed right away and others get partially fixed but new problem arises( the situation im in atm:P) Or dont work at all.
