I grabbed the "Joining the Stormcloaks" mission from Galmar a while back and since it was out by Winterhold and I went ahead and did the College quest line. Well I got to playing more and as time went by I forgot about it, so I decided it was time to beat the game. I get to "Season Unending" and I convinced General Tullius, then I head back to Windhelm and try to convince Ulfric Stormcloak but he says something like "Aren't you supposed to be proving yourself?". Well I try and troubleshoot it and go do the quest, complete it by killing one wraith, and when I go to turn it in to Galmar he says "I don't know how you convinced Ulfric to talk to the Empire. Worst than a waste of time if you ask me." I then try to find Ulfric to see if maybe I turn it into him. He says WITH NO DIALOG BOX "Well done, now go speak with Galmar, you and him will be going on mission together." I try and speak to him to see if I can bring up a dialog box but no luck. When he said that I checked my journal and nothing was added to either quest, it still shows that I need to convince Ulfric, and that I killed one wraith as a test for joining the Stormcloaks. After that I ran to Galmar again and he said the same thing as before "I don't know how you convinced Ulfric to talk to the Empire." But I haven't convinced him to talk to the Empire, or me for christ sake..


I know this was a tad long but I feel as though most bug/error reports submitted by most users, isn't detailed enough. I hope this helps, and/or gets fixed in the next patch. If anyone has tried anything else or has the same problem please comment below or explain what happened to yours.

Yep i have come across this EXACT same thing and i cannot progress without this being fixed, grr ive tried killing galmar and the jarl then running away, going to jail and restarting my console PLEASE help find a fix.

Same here. I tried for almost 4 hours to do this or do that to fix it. In the end still stuck and unable to complete the main story. Kind of a bummer after you toss in 50 hours on one guy. *Sad Face*

I'm having the same problem. I hope Bethesda fixes this issue so I don't have to start a new game.

Good to know I am not the only one. The problem is not only can I not complet the main quest, I can't join either side of the army either to do that storyline. This is pretty infuriating. Based on your previous experiences- can we expect this to be patched?

Wow so I figured out a fix to this. I searched more and more online and someone mentioned something about talking to the blades at the sky haven temple. So when I went there they weren't where they were when you left them, but if you go up the stairs and out the door to skyrim they are standing outside. Talk to them and they give you a new quest. I was than able to go to Ulfric and get a dialogue box.

No idea why it worked, but it did somehow. I will be making a new save like once an hour now after seeing all the glitch problems people have had.

So how can i avoid this glitch? Should i join the storm cloaks first and then continue with the Main Quest?

Doesn't seem to work. Tried this. Took the quest, Killed the guy, returned the quest. Still the same issue.

I just talked to the blades and got the quest they give you then went straight to Ulrich and when I talked to him the first time he just said something but I hit A again and it went to the dialogue box.

I'll try it next time I get a chance to play, hopefully I'll be lucky and it will work for me. If it doesn't I'm sure Bethesa is working on a patch for it as we speak. I doubt they'd ignore a bug that cripples two whole questlines,
