Crash Straight After Launch

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 9:07 am

Ok when i launch the game it opens into the intro screen and then i get to a screen with just the skyrim logo, stays there for a second then just crashes to desktop. There is however no error message.

Im currently running

AMD Phenom II x6 1100t 3.3ghz
8GB Kingston RAM 1600Mhz
ATI Radeon 6970 2GB
Win7 (latest service pack)

Any help on this matter would be appreciated

PS. All my drivers are up to date

Try setting the skyrim.exe in compatibility mode for windows 7.
Worked for me.

I get same problem now... Weird thing is that I managed to launch the game once, and get past the character creation, but lagged heavely, so wanted to check if there were any fixes for that, and now i cant even get back in game at all....

Hey guys, I was having this problem too and just stumbled on a solution that worked for me at least.

My sound device in windows was set to output at 192khz 24bit. When I set this back to 44.1khz 16bit it fixed the problem!

So to check, in win7 go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound

Pick your sound device that is set as default, click Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab and make sure the 'Default Format' it is set to 44.1khz 16bit.

I actually was able to set mine to 96khz 24bit and it works aswell, just doesn't seem to like 192khz.

Good luck!

Worked for me!

Try the sound thing in http://crashfixes.com/fixing-skyrim-crashes-freezes-errors-steam-crash-no-sound-lags-choppy-framerates/
that fixed it for me! Sill have the issue with the horrible fps though... (i7, 2gb video card and 9gb ram shouldn't have that...)
NVM!!!! The same link that i posted above had the solution, I should go to graphic card setting and have it use the "high performance gpu" or something like that /(top of 2nd page) works like a charm!

mine automatically pre-loaded off steam even though i have the hard disk. i seem to be missing skyrim.exe on it, my disk size is 5.10 gig yet other people have said theirs is 5.60...

considering i live in new zealand and we were the first to get it i am just a bit peeved that i haven't had the chance to play it yet!
