[WIP]Dwemer insect

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:40 pm

I made this a few years ago, but I'm currently re-working the mesh/texture so I can get it into Skyrim as a new Dwemer insect so there's something other than spiders. Would probably need custom animations... lets hope it's easier done than in oblivion :)

WOW!

That looks really amazing, nice work! Can't wait to see that textured and in-game. As for animations, there are some pretty clever people in the community. There were completely custom creatures with their own animations designed for Oblivion. I'm sure if you can't get it worked out, someone would be able to help or give you some tips.

Looks nice, but not very Dwemer. Needs more clunky steampunk chic to be Dwemer.

I figured the textures would add the real Dwemeri feel. Right now it's just a gray model. :P Maybe more pronounced joints and less organic?

It's a great model, but I don't really see it as Dwemer. What I would do is to make it a bit less Giger and more steampunk by reworking the armour plates so that they are more angular and replace the legs with some kind of piston-mechanisms.
Or you could make the textures look like a Daedra if you want to keep the organic look of the model?
And as usual, this is only suggestions, do whatever you think looks cool :)

You got it bang on you when you said Giger... when I originally made this a few years back I was trying to mimic his style, so thats why it's got a metal + organic look at the same time :P

I Know it's not very dwemer currently, but I'm going to reshape the metal plates so they're very smooth and sharp, then hopefully with a gold & silver texture + the fact that they would be very small in-game... hopefully they would 'fit in' ok if seen in a Dwemer environment. I'd like them to be about 1/3 the size of the spiders so they would be quite weak, but they would swarm the player in groups of say 4 - 6 of them. Thats the plan for now anyway :)

Looks a little too sci-fi right now. Dwemer stuff should have gears at the points of articulation or something, and some way to distinguish it as steam powered.

You could also add some details through use of normal mapping. It looks great, it will be good to see it added to the game. Maybe a spider replacement mod is in the making...

It looks great but it looks nothing like something the Dwemer would build.
