IntelNvidia user cannot launch from Steam. (crashes)

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:52 pm

Hi All,

I bought this game first day.
I've been watching the forums both here and Steam and after trying all configurations (downloading the game 3 times @ 20GB each time!)
I'm still using the BETA drivers from Nvidia which does nothing (but I was able to play EVERY other game I own as well as the BETA BF3)

Now, I've posted several times on the Steam forums, but I'd thought I'd give it a shot over here. (No one would even bother answering my topics)

Here are my specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
P5K Deluxe
8GB RAM
Q9650@ 3.0GHZ
EVGA GeForce GTX 460 running nvidia BETA drivers (8.17.12.8538) - Sept 26 BETA driver

I've also noticed that there is 1 file on Steam that is consistently needing to be reacquired after selecting "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE"
Anyone get this? I've seen a bunch of people refer to this issue; but did id Software ever give an official statement?

Does anyone else get the same error after the game stops responding?
I clicked on "View Problem Details" after you get that windows prompt saying "Rage is not responding"

Thanks for any replies, I'm just tired and frustrated; I was so excited for this game but this is by far the worst release this year (us PC enthusiasts are unfortunately getting the shorter end of the stick these days)

Yeah, I noticed that error before as well.

My setup is a little strange though, I'm using Logitech's Z Cinema sound system (which enables digital sound through usb) -- no sound card required.
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/439/3712 <-- just a link of what it looks like

But I also installed my SoundMax drivers from Asus for good measure.
I've never had this issues before, but now that you mention it, I haven't tried it with no sound plugged in.

When you guys are getting errors, what do you error details say?
I know id software had hardware issues with video cards, but has anyone heard of any issues with sound cards? or lack of? (in my case for Logitech's Z Cinema)

Wow.

That worked! Is there anyway to send this to id software to see if any other type of users with sort of setup are having this particular issue?

Okay figured it out!

There is a SMS Audio enhancement for Logitech Z Cinema in the specific sound driver options that needs to be turned off while playing RAGE.

If you disable it, everything works!
