ATI Drivers 11.10 Preview 3 Saving Games - Worse then before

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 11:14 pm

The problems saving games with the new ATI drivers are worse then before for me.
Clicking on F5 for quick saving or ESC to go to the main menu to save -> 90% of chances to have a crash (or freeze) now...

This game will be ever playable?!?

No way.
With these drivers I have not only saving issues but even crashes during games that I have never before.
Going to remove v3 and revert to v2.

Ps: mettal I have a similar system. I have just a 5670 instead of a 5770.

Make sure you have no processes in the background running... especially the kind that update randomly like flash etc... that fixed it for me... as for the saving bug... try defraging your game cache files then check integrity

I had this problem and cured it by making a shortcut to rage.exe (found in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rage) and setting the compatibility mode to Windows 98 / windows ME.

It seems crazy, but it worked for me and I never had another F5 or "Esc" related crash after that. I could quick save and access the menu as often as I liked.

Have you tried with the preview 3 too?

To blood0fth3lamb: did it yet, same problem.

I really dont understand if it is a driver replated problem or a patch is needed.
But since we have 0 news from Bethesda/ID, I have no hopes they will release soon a patch...

No, I haven't. I don't need to because the super l33t h4xx0r back-door injected, 3 times proxied IP, saran wrapped, stealth moded, mutex masquerading, trojan pony driver (verified by a sooper seekrit AMD nix boxen contact of mine) that I downloaded yesterday fixed everything, including the crashing on save.

What have you got to lose by trying? Changing the compatibilty mode may fix your problem.

You can try these new drivers at your own risk, but we were still testing against them for issues. For now, our official recommendation remains to use the V2 drivers.

V3 drivers made it all worse for me, too!

More crashes and worse graphics...

Yup same here, whatever issues i had were removed with the P3 drivers.....Please keep in mind :

1.No atioglxx.dll in rage folder.
2.No rageconfig.cfg in rage\base.
3.No launch parameters like "jobNumThreads" or "vt_maxPPF"
4.All settings at default in CCC.

I had some texture issues in win7 32-bit, but after i upgraded and switched to 64-bit no issues at all. I would also suggest disabling Hyper-Threading if your CPU supports it.

I don't know why I bothered 'updating' the the preview 3's.

Peformance the same as before (i.e perfect) but now I can crashes when the game auto-saves and i'm seeing texture corruption when new levels load up (which I didn't have before)

I literally had no issues with the preview 2's. Wish I hadn't bothered installing these.

same thing here...preview version 3 completely fixed my texture issues (wow- the game looks good;) Unfortunately it makes my game freeze on any occasion possible, mostly upon saves but also ingame (it takes about 2 minutes)
Windows Vista 32bit
ATI Radeon HD 4850
So I′m gonna reinstall the last official ATI driver (including texture issues) and wait for the next patch and next official driver update.

Btw. First time I experience such a hell lot of problems while trying to make a game work. So far my system (surely not state of the art but always reliable) has run any game on 1920x 1080 on high- ultra settings.
Can′t even play Rage on 1440x 900 resolution without massive texture problems. considering buying an Nvidia card asap.

But having XP 32bit, HD 5670.
Better textures/speed, turning off Vsync (I have to turn it on with v2 to avoid a sort of 'desync' from the up and bottom parts of screen-'tearing'?)
but terrible save problems and crashng during game too.
I hope a solution will be out soon, since I have almost ended the SP...
(... not before 31 oct, if its just a driver problem unfortunately...)

I think the V3 drivers are causing a memory leak.

I just downloaded the v3 drivers and was about to install them when I thought I'd check the forums first and see how people like them. Now that I see these issues and a recommendation to stick with the v2, I'm definitely doing that. Screw v3, v2 works good enough.

I think that Catalyst 11.10 version 3 runs the game better than Version 2 the only issue is crashing/texture corruption during quick saving and level loading.

Agreed, the Catalyst 11.10 version 3 drivers finally gave a beautiful graphic and short playing time because, all of a sudden random freezing and saved game would cause freezing also. No matter what the hell setting I chose. I'm so bored and at a loss with this now. I'm seriously returning this game because I cannot get back the countless hours now that I have come sat down, uninstalled drivers, reinstalled drivers, exited the game, reenter the game, try setting hacks....all in the name of getting a damn game I spent money on to play. This is a record broken for me for sure in trying to get a game to "run".
I'm not going to bother rolling back to the Catalyst 11.10 version 2 drivers, for what? to go back to blob textures or checkerboards? Oh but the game won't freeze so I guess that's the trade off. What a joke.

Oh and for the record, My rig is:

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
ASUS P5Q
Intel Core2 Quad 9400
ATI Radeon HD5700
6GB Corsair Ram
2TB Seagate SATA2

Here is my situation...
If I use Compatibility for anything from t8/me to XP SP3, I don t have problem with saving and escape, but after 5 minutes into the game it starts hanging...alot.
If I only use the +cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +seta com_allowconsole 1 +vt_maxPPF 8 with the compatibility, no change.
If I only use the parameter "+cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +seta com_allowconsole 1 +vt_maxPPF 8" Escape and Saving issues and also texture problem.
If I use the config file no texture issue but save and escape issue.

Now I curse myself and I think I should have bought those indie games.

I've never downloaded the v3 drivers, and I can only save my game successfully 1 out of 3 times at best. It just freezes, and I have to kill the process with Task Manager.
