Meele warrior - and the dragon

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 6:31 pm

Hey guys i dont get it, how to fight a dragon as a meele.
For example i am an orc, orcs are brutal warriors so in my thoughs they got a heavy armor and a two hand axe.
They are silly so i dont use magic ;)
Also alchemy isnt this option, so i just have around 10 healpots with me, now my question:

how can i stand against a dragon? his firebreath nearly kills my because i cant hide fast enaugh.

so there is no way to play this way in skyrim?

I play this way, need to level archery or get a companion with ranged or use a shout. I'm lvl 43 with this type and dragons dont stand a chance when they land

You have to dodge its firebreath attacks until it decides to land. When it does, go in close and axe it to death. Sometimes they'll fly away without ever landing, which can be frustrating. Hit it with a ranged Dragon Shout (Fus Ro Dah works) so it starts combat. When it lands and you're fighting it, switch to Ethereal Form. When it starts hitting you with FIre/Ice breath, activate Ethereal Form and attack as soon as the fire/ice is over.

use a bow, a ranged companion, or your Shouts to force it to land, then go to town on his scaly dragon-butt. carve me some nice steaks while your at it.

There is quite a few ways for a melee char to beat a dragon. My char uses 2 handed and also 1 handed with shield depending on the foe. I use shouts like fire breath or marked for death to get some damage on him then wade in with 2 handed from the flank and wail on the dragon. My last Dragon was a Blood Dragon who kept flaming me to death until i switched to using a shield with 40% resist fire and necklace giving another 15% resist fire. Then it was easy to hack it to death with the occasional shout. Keep an eye open for resist fire jewelery or armor..always handy ;)

Also, use Unrelenting Force shout to stun and interrupt the breath of the dragon. Takes some practice but if you get it right you can stop that nasty breath whittling down your health.

You said no alchemy but you should still have enchanting at high level. Make yourself a good set of fire and frost resist rings and necklaces and equip as needed. If needed you can also make boots and helms. You can easily boost your resistance so high the breath won't hurt you. That will make you safe while dragon is in the air.

If you have Dragonrend shout that'll get him down quickly if you don't use a bow and a companion to get him down... if you notice he's not landing on the ground get on a clear area where he'll have a lot of room to move then he'll land.

Bows are by far the easiest way to slay dragons.
If you want to use meele though I suggest getting a sturdy companion - when the dragon lands it will focus on your companion. You can then approach it from the side (all dragons can only attack from the front and swipe their tail) and hack away at it.
Be aware though that once the dragon is at >50% health it crash lands and will sometimes move about surprisingly quick!

Hi, im pure melee and don't have any issues with dragons.

As I levelled 75% of my points were put into HP and the remainder into Stamina, I ensure I fight dragons on my own terms/ground - ie nice and flat so they will land.

As soon as they land I aim to get myself along side them and hit their wings with gusto - no need for power attacks imo. Most times the dragon stays there until dead (perhaps cus I [censored] it's wing) however on the odd occasion the bugger will fly off, I keep one eye on the sky whilst searching for cover.

Then repeat.

I use no bows, no arrows, Whirlwind rush just to get into range.

It can take minutes before a dragon lands, avoiding his breath is easy - if you struggle with that, its a l2p issue.

realy just a l2p problem? i expirienced the flammes killed me although it physically couldnt... but this isnt what i am worried about (i think if it flys i can handle to avoid)

its the thing if it lands... a sturdy companion is a good way too...

how to manage that? i did nevery succeded to of not getting infront of dragons face if there is no companion :(
he always turns as fast as i run...

dont understand me false, i am not complaining, just want to brainstorm with you guys ;)

Edit: what is dragonrend? (dont spoiler me too much, did much misc quests and didnt found much tuhums already....)

so for my orc i see the options:
- sturdy companion (not so happy about it)
- jewelry with resistance for the dragons breath

Just take Lydia with you, the only way for her to die is by you and she uses a bow heaps of the time.

Dragonrend is a dragon shout - wont spoil what it does.

One you reach a high level the dragon's breath (fire or ice) will barely hurt you. I actually think Frost Trolls are harder than most dragons!

I just use a bow until it lands then go in for the kill, normally I attack its body not its head so it can't do anything to me.

Also the fire does very little to me for some reason >.>
