Alphabetical Chests

Why are the items in a chest stored in a random order? When you have over 200 items in one chest, with no partitions like in the character inventory, it's almost impossible to find what you need. Also, why is it not in alphabetical order in the first place?

I find the entire inventory system in Skyrim to be slightly inferior to Oblivion. I like how it seems more fluid than Oblivion, but the organization is terrible. I was hoping to be able to sort items by weight and value/attack/defence strength, but that's impossible with Skyrim's loot system.

Then there's chests. I can pile as many items as I want into the chest, but there is no form of organization in them whatsoever. As you say, no alphabetical system. This is infuriating when I try to figure out where a particular item is, and I have to go through a huge unsorted list of 200 items to find it.

Doesnt chest get organized by item type just like everything else? You dont look for a sword in the Potions tab.

Nope. It's just got a "Chest" tab and everything is all just lumped in there, seemingly at random.

Also stolen items are added to normal item stacks which is very confusing.

For a moment, pretend that you found a chest while on the way to work one day. If you opened it, how likely is it that the contents are going to be arranged alphabetically? Not a glitch.

Your argument makes sense for a chest found in a dungeon or something, and I'd agree in that instance.

The issue that OP is probably referring to is the chest located in your own home, where you SHOULD have some level of organisation. As it stands now, storing items in your chests/cupboards leads to a clusterf@ck of items if you have a lot.

Oblivion had Alphabetical chests and had chest partitions if I remember correctly.

My time to be a smart ass in defense of all unorganized chests of skyrim who do not what to be neat and tidy!

Here goes:

The chest is maybe 3 feet long and 2 feet tall... Unless it has a false bottom you should not be able to fit 200 items in it at all.

Yep. In oblivion, in ANY container (chests, cupboards, dead bodies, etc) and in your own inventory there was partitions for weapons, apparel, potions/ingredients, and miscellaneous. On top of that you could sort all of those items alphabetically, by monetary value, by attack/defence rating (where applicable) and by weight. Again, this is for any container in the game.

I am really surprised this was left out, i am actually wasting a lot of time scrolling through my chest looking for what i need/want out of it. We need partitions at least...

I couldn't agree more. I'm an avid collector and looter in ES games, and having no simple method to distinguish between what I have/don't have is very aggravating.
