Just a Few Bugs I Haven't Seen People Report

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 11:11 am

There isn't a general bug thread to post stuff like this in that I know of, so I'll just put some of the consistent (but non-game breaking) bugs I have encountered here. Feel free to leave your own or comment on what I've ran into.

- Smithing: The mechanics of Smithing seem to either be bugged or poorly programmed and easy to exploit. Are you supposed to be able to use enchanting/alchemy to boost your Smithing to insane levels and make god items? It seems incredibly unbalanced.
- Blade of Woe: I am not sure if this is bugged because of how I acquired it (SPOILER:I looted it off the leader of the DB's corpse after killing her), but there is no resource needed to upgrade the blade via smithing.
- Bookshelves: When placing books in the bookshelves it doesn't actually allow you to place enough books to fill it up. The result is 10 or so books leaning against each other at a 30 degree angle. I hear the weapon racks are bugged as well.
- Item Physics: Some items are just don't agree with the engine. For example, the Bust of the Gray Fox doesn't stand up properly and when you leave the cell and come back it randomly teleports to different locations in the cell.
-Hats: Some head slots (none which are armor) are not fitted properly for Khajiits, and presumably some other races (Argonians probably).

I'll add more when I remember.

For the bookshelves I wouldn't say it's a bug, nor a design oversight. The two shelves I've found are a 11 and 18 book shelf. If you put only large books (The Real Barenziah, for example) on the shelf then it'll fill up with little to no space in between. If you mix and match with small books or put only small books, then yes they'll start leaning a bit.

To be honest, that's perfectly fine. Bethesda made it SO much easier to have an actual library in this game, it's amazing. They limit the shelves to the maximum amount of books it can hold, which is the best possible way to do it.
I collect books, so all of mine are in alphabetical order and are mixed with large and small books, so my library looks more realistic than I could ever accomplish in Oblivion.

EDIT: ok, I did find a bug with bookshelves. Currently, mine are almost filled. I got a new book so I went to take all of the books off of a particular shelf (has 18 books on it) and only 3 show up, saying I have 15 spaces left. Then, all of them except 3 get deleted when I exit the container menu. WTF IS THIS?

Now, the weapon racks (in some cases) are actually bugged because the player can't even activate them. Particularly the one in Breezehome - Whiterun.

I have the 'domino effect' with my bookshelves too, only the large books actually stay upright.

As for smithing i have to say it levels extremely fast, its a good way to make money as you gather the ore's and bar's but rather pointless as i dont want to gain 7 more levels in the space of 20 mins and have my character seriously underpowered. Smithing needs a massive reduction in terms of exp per item, my house storage has more than enough ingots for armour and jewelry which could easily get me 100 smithing 4 times over, i have only been to 3 cities and have 58 locations discovered with about 80% of those fully explored! and already have a insane amount of raw materials. Very restrictive at the moment.

Have you actually gotten smithing to 100? I'm in the low 60's for smithing, and even with a 45% bonus to smithing skill-up rate (warrior birth stone, well rested sleeping bonus, dwemer lexicon quest bonus perk), it takes 4 or 5 item creates now to get one skill-up. At first it went up fast (just like every other skill seemingly), but it doesn't seem like I'm going to get to rush to 100 right now.

If you spam craft iron daggers you can get from 20-100 in about an hour. It takes a few thousand gold, but by level 30ish this should be no problem at all.
