Amd 11.10 preview 3 fixed texture problems now crashes

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:18 pm

Tried the Amd 11.10 p 3 and (lets have a week long celebration) not one graphic problem. No missing textures, no artifacts, no texture popping, no tearing. Just perfect game play! Until we get to Haggar's (?) place and he explanes that he is in trouble and needs you to kill the ghost clan. Then the game CRASHES!!
Tried every thing I could to fix this except ramming this piece of trash down Carmack's throut.
Either patch the game, fix the drivers, tell us how you got the game to run acceptably on a PC, or give our money back!!!!!
I work hard for my money wish i could say the same for Id.

Would recommend using the preview 2 drivers rather than the preview 3 drivers -- in our testing of the new driver, we found issues that did not exist with the previous driver.

Have tried 11.6, 11.8, 11.9, 11.10 preview 1, 11.10 preview 2. All had texture and artifact problems. Game ran fine for me with the 11.8 and a few cfg tweaks before the patch. After the patch no matter what drivers or settings 1 in 10 textures is right.
specs are :
Motherboard Asus M4A78T-E
CPU PhenomIIX4 965 BE
Video Radeon 5750 HD
memory 4Gb 1600 Pc3
Dard drive Samsung 1Tb 358 Gb free
Windows 7 home premium 32 bit

The only thing that worked for me in terms of playing Rage is the preview 3 driver. However, as already said, it does have its problems. I have mildly degraded graphics with Crysis Warhead and Crysis 2. I also found out last night that Riddike: Dark Athena now crashes on start up. On top of that, trying to change presets when the CCC is open results in a driver crash with the message "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". I can change settings manually but not by selecting different presets. Changing presets by right clicking on the CCC icon does nothing as the old preset is still in use if I then open CCC.

In terms of Rage, the driver works fine and is the *only* thing that has allowed me to play the game properly and without any issues with Rage itself. I can also play lots of other games without issue, but clearly Preview 3 is bugged. I have nearly finished the game now and as soon as I have I will be reverting to 11.9 cats.

After working with 11.10 preview 3 I find that there is a hard fault with the atioglxx.dll

That is correct the preview version 3 seems to have memory leak. The game crashes after 6-8 quick saves and/or level loads, also I noticed that it crashes in subway town when interacting with Stew and Janni by buying/selling goods many times. When game crashes it uses about 2.7GB of RAM. But I think that visual quality during game play is better in version 3 or is it placebo effect? please confirm if the visuals are the same or any different from preview version 2.

Did you find any workaround the problem or are you going to wait for AMD to fix the issue(s)?

I am checking catalystcreator posts on twitter quite frequently and he seems to be mum on the issue.

Well tried installing a atioglxx.dll from the preview OpenGL update in the Rage folder got as far as entering the ghost hideout then no textures. Everything was great with different dll until then. Will give different setting and cfgs a try. If that does not fix it then ya on to battlefield 3.
Guess i'll just chalk the money for this game up as a loss. At least I'll know not to buy Id or Bethesda software again.
Maybe next year if there is some kind of dry spell in good games I might remember this and revisit Rage. See if anything has been fixed. At the very least I know bf3 will run "right out of the box" since it will have been tested. Could not help but chuckle at an interview of pc gamer and Carmack. Basically said they will be designing for the pc then port to console. Wonder if they think their sales will be worth doing another game?
