did you add to your C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base the atioglxx.dll http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RPEXA871

Unfortunately, I think you're going to have a problem with the graphics card as it's below the minimum system requirements for the game. So even if you can get the game to run, the performance (or lack thereof) would probably make the game unplayable.

Also, like all games developed by id software, RAGE uses an OpenGL based graphics engine. OpenGL support for Intel based graphics chipsets has always been shoddy at best and non-existant at worst. This is why you're getting the crash errors I surmise.

try hitting alt-tab for some time after you launch the game

so it minimizes the aplication then get back in and you'll hear sound from the intros and it'll work

If intel graphics 3000 are not supported then it might not work at all - your laptop is not a gaming laptop - this is an integrated grahpics chip, not a mobile graphics card.

Intel does not produce dedicated desktop or mobile graphics cards. The real GFX is from Nvidia and AMD/ATI only.

Carmack mentioned something about intel graphics that rage works 30 Frames per second on .... but no idea if it's support is included in official release yet. It might come as a patch feature - this is like the only game i would know that has a chance of getting to work on integrated chip ... there's nothing else in the industry that you should expect to work on your machine.

These are the minimum requirements:

Minimum:
  • OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Hard Disk Space: 25GB
  • Video Card: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200

Also for the sake of accuracy: Intel HD Graphics is not a "video card" , it is an "integrated graphics processor" which falls in the non-gaming category (office/multimedia work only)

It's an integrated Intel video card, so an ATi driver won't do any good.

Also original poster, could you be a little more specific with the game's crash message? Or doesn't it say more than that?

remove that "atioglxx" file - it's not applicable for your system.

Don't worry about yourself - it's not your fault it doesn't work.

---------

Standard windows error has something like "show more info" button. Click that , copy the diagnostic text and post it here.

Edit: Also don't get confused by the term "HD" - this is the standard modern terms for marketing these days, it has no fixed meaning , it's just used mostly as a commercial word, it makes a product look better but it doesn't stand for anything that makes it different from another product, it's an abused term in many different contexts has many different meanings. In this case it has no meaning at all.

Sounds to me like you need to re format your hard drive and reinstall windows. When applications do not work like that it is usually because your windows installation is corrupted.

Also make sure your Laptops graphic card supports Open GL and the Latest version of Direct X.

Quate: As it stands right now Rage likely will not run on your system at all. I seem to remember JC mentioning that intel was working on getting it up and running - but there is no promise. The sandy bridge integrated parts are the best solutions intel has shipped so far - but they still have less power than a 8800 Ultra. Make sure you go to intels site to check out the latest drivers they have. Those generic error messages svck - check your system logs.

This is a pretty cavalier pronouncement. This would mean that I should do the same, as my Rage also crashes on startup. However, I am fairly sure my Windows install is not corrupt, and every other Steam, ID, and Bethesda game I have runs fine. So I'm afraid I can't support your conclusion. Let me check a few more things before we try the nuke.

Also, there are less drastic ways to ensure the integrity of your Windows installation short of "Format and Reinstall".

If the Card supports Open GL then the game will run.

I think that her card does not support open GL. Sounds to me like a low powered videochip.

To run RAGE you need a real video card that supports Open GL.

If that would have been true i would had to reinstall my windows a 1000 times

There are so many ways before you need a reformat. Oh so many i could start a nother topic to write a day on.
