Can't place stuff in Houses.

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:18 pm

So heres the thing that really bugs me. I buy a house, put things on top of the shelf make everything look nice, spent like 2 hours on it, come back after a few dungeons, all the stuff is on the floor. Now this bugs me more then anything, knowing I can't place things on my shelves without it being just thrown on the ground after I spent so much time putting the stuff there in the first place. I'm just wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this or if this a known bug? :sadvaultboy:

I think the only structures in the house that retain any form of item location are the ones you can interact with via the menu - and even those have item limits. I had the same issue with "dropped" items moving and gave up.

This is disappointing :/ i spent many hours pimping up my homes on Oblivion and both Fallout game's, while i do think the wall plaque's, weapon racks and bookshelves are a great addition and give us more display options i do miss being able to fully personalize my home :(.

The grab tool seems slightly better as anything i pick up seems to slowly upright itself to make for easier placement.

I tried placing a troll skull in different place's in breezehome but the jaw of the skull flails wildly and so i gave up.

It could also just be a issue that could easily be fixed with a patch....but if not I'll be extremely sad. :sadvaultboy:

it is possible to place items. I have done it.

the thing is, for some reason the stuff you place gets moved around the first time. so, just throw the stuff on the floor, leave the house. sleep, let some time pass. then return to your home. if your stuff has moved, you are safe. place them where you like and they will be there. works for me at least. I have skulls, gems and such placed on my bookshelfs :)

Ill try this, because this is a huge bug for me... One that basically erases hours of gameplay.

That technique did not work(though, the first time it did). After half an hour of more decorating, I did the same thing, and all the items I just had placed on tables and shelves are now on the floor.... Please fix this! I loved decorating in the other games, but now that this one is bugged, I cant even do it anymore.

My Wooden Mask disappeared after putting it in a display case in the Arch-Mage's quarters. Now I have to replay 4 hours of my game.

Same thing happend to me and I didn't even place anything, I just left my house the way it was when I bought all the decorations, came back and everything was on the floor, I had to pick everything up and put em in chests till this gets sorted out, I don't expect Bethesda to fix or add any new features but I hope they at least fix this bug so I can trust the objects in my house not to grow legs and walk around while I'm gone.

Are any of you saving and reloading inside of your houses? I noticed that if I save inside my Whiterun house, turn the game off, reboot the game and load that save, most of the walls will be gone along with a bunch of the furniture. Almost all of the items sitting out (on the furniture that disappeared) will be thrown on the floor as well. I get around this by loading the save, exiting the house, then reloading the save. You can also just avoid saving in your house before turning the game off to prevent the problem as well.

Has anybody experienced this? Maybe it has something to do with the items moving around issue some of you are having. I'm still early in the game, so I haven't been able to test to see if the problem occurs with the other houses yet.

I'm playing on 360 BTW.

The game world does this with dead things also. I walked out of whiterun and a dead dragon skeleton fell from the sky into the courtyard. Dead things just lay around forever. I'd think they'd want to despawn those after a few days. I mean it has to try to remember where everything is and it obviously isn't doing a good job of it. Cache related bugs I'm guessing. Maybe once they sort the texture thing out these spawning issues won't be so much of a problem. I'm thinking it all has to do with how the xbox cache's things maybe.

I hope they fix this because im having the same problem and thats what brought me to the forums. Ive always loved collecting things, books gems skulls and special weapons and armor to display around my house. I spent forever setting things up once I bought the house in whiterun only to come back a couple days later and everything is on the floor and some stuff stuck in mid air away from the shelf it was on.

it honestly seems alot harder to move the items around then it was in oblivion. it seemed like the items in oblivion had different points you could grab and it wasnt so touchy to move stuff around. trying to stack things like books or something is damn near impossible without flinging the whole pile across the room a couple times.
