*NEW* NVIDIA GeForce Driver out today!

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 10:17 pm

Hi!

I have been lurking around here since RAGE got released solely to fix the damn problems that shipped along with it. I finally registered because I saw the updated driver today and couldn't see anyone else here mentioning it :)
So let's test the [censored] out it!

My specs:

Win 7 64-bit
GeForce 560ti
6GB DDR3 1600mhz of RAM
Intel i7-950 @ 3.7Ghz

Everything in RAGE runs flawless with following settings:

Resolution - 1920 x 1080
AA - x8
Vsync - ON
Anisotropic filtering - high
Texture cache - large
GPU transcoding - ON

Now I'm just waiting for a high-res texture pack so that I can say goodbye to bad close-range textures :)

Only thing i noticed now is that "smart" vsync option in game is gone. Before this new drivers i could choose between off, smart and on. Now i have only on and off option. When i select on i get like.30-40Fps with my GTX 460. When its off i get constant 60 FPS and constant screen tearing. So with previous drivers i was using smart vsync. And on top of that texture popups are still here.

The Nvidia site is reporting a "server busy" error. Oh well, I can wait another eight hours; gotta hit the sack for now.

oh sorry JGP just now seen your post!

Well, I will see what these drivers do! I have not had any problems other than cheap, blurry textures. The first patch seemed to have helped a bit but not much in terms of texture rendering. We'll see what happens!

***Edit*
I see no difference at all! Geforce 8500 GT. Actually I see a bit more distortion in a mesh looking texture that looks like a perforated light cover over everything now, the kind you see over industrial lights.

Thanks for posting. We're testing against these new drivers today. If we find anything irregular, we'll let you know.

For 32bit Windows7 users with SLI I highly recommend 280.26

tested and runs SLI with Rage without any problems EXCEPT that screen flickers like SLI is going out of sync but that was rare..

With 285.27 I cant enable SLI in nvidia's control panel and can't run Rage without errors with a single card.. :banghead:

Will try this new one with SLI

With the 285.58 I can run single GPU and the game runs fine on Win XP with my GTS 450. SLI forced on actually causes a rather fast video/audio out of sync problem, and then a slow texture update if left running.

I do have to kill the RAGE.exe process after quiting the game, but no long have system crash/freeze on game quit. Also can not use ALT+TAB or game video/audio become out of sync. ALT+ENTER does still work well for Win XP to counter loading screen problems.

Just tried it with some Dead City. I'd previously been using the last WHQL 2.75 as I had http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=207858 with 2.80, and wasn't willing to try out a beta driver. The release notes for 2.85 indicated that the cause of these issues was identified and the behaviour rolled back to the way 2.75 did it, so I was happy to upgrade.

It works. In the limited time I've used it I've seen considerably reduced pop-in, and it seems quite a bit faster overall. So far so good; going to do some more extensive play later on and we'll see.

Only issue for me as opposed to the betas is that the smart vsync option is gone. Other than that, the game is smooth as butter with everything maxed other than aa which is sitting at 4x with no custom configs.

I got the new drivers, and before them my game would freeze for about 10 seconds, and then run for 1, now I run for 10 seconds, and freeze for about 2, changes though, anybody have any ideas what would be best to put my settings at to make it run with minimal freezing? I don't know my system specs and have mostly been playing around with the video options to try and make something work.

Thank you Rage77 and JGP.

The new drivers have smoothened the game even more for me (though it's not a really big jump). A caveat though: now I have 3-second freeze bugs. They don't occur often so it's not a big thing for me. I'm keeping this version installed.
