Curious bout the launch day patch?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 2:26 am

Has anyone tried playing Skyrim without installing the first patch? I kept thinking to myself maybe the patch(something they goofed up in the patch) is some of the reason for the save file problems.. I'm almost at 10mb save file and 60+ hrs. I've experienced the frame rate drops everywhere i go for the first few minutes of that place i just arrive at but i never had the frame rate screw me in a battle or anything to completely ruin the experience, only manually traveling to quest locations and fast traveling to towns are the only times i see horrible frame rate drops. I do remember the game locked up on me in the first 5 mins, the guy started talking to me and mentioned the other 2 prisoners in the carriage with us so i looked over to them and it locked up on me.. Never had it lock up again tho.. But then again i went and cleared most of my game data 3gb and up and cant figure out how i only have 22gb free of the 74gb, i checked the data i should have like atleast 50gb free. I think my hard drive is not reading right!

I was wondering what would happen if I uninstalled the first day patch myself.

I'm gonna uninstall the launch day patch and poke around the game and see if I notice anything favorable.

Let us know what happens, I'm interested in seeing what deleting the patch may do for frame rate issue if anything.

Sadly I won't be able to find out if it works. I can't load any save data since it said data was all created WITH the launch day patch... Only way would be to start playing from scratch without said patch and accumulate at the very least 35 hours or so =P

I don't have internet access to my console (I'm trying to get it but it will take some time yet) and my game was fine. I started getting a little temporary lag once my save file got around the 6000 mark (only for a few seconds and it didn't keep happening), but I've only ever had one crash/full freeze in over 30 hours of play. I haven't been playing the last few days so I don't know if the lag will get worse or if it will still just be the odd temporary bit (but I never had any at all before the save file hit the 6000 mark that others specify as when the problems start). My last game session was a fairly short one and had no problems. I probably haven't played beyond 4-5 hours in one session and always give my console a while to cool down.

I don't spend all my time on the internet reading every post here or elsewhere. Was it ever specified what the launch day patch actually fixed or is it still unspecified?

This was a question that I was asking about the lag issue that no body wanted to answer. I DO NOT have the one day patch. I've only bumped into 3 minor glitches including the one where you can't marry Lydia. The other two were just temporary abnormalities. I've had a few crashes, and a little bit a lag (Although it's getting slightly worse as my file save also grows, past the 8MB hump last night but still the lag is not too much of an issue. over 30 hours of play. My play sessions range from 45 minutes-3 hours. I find putting in another game into the system and playing that for a half hour then coming back to Skyrim helps smooth things out as well. I joined the thieves guild no problem, I absorb dragons, talk to NPC's but my only real issue is that it freezes from time to time and once a loading screen hung for a long time.

Also, I've played a lot of Bethesda's games and I tend to be very gentle with them. I don't move sporadically, big missions/quests that deal with a lot of NPC's I'll make sure it's the first thing I do when I boot up the machine, If I have Dragons that I have to go fight I'll make sure it's the first thing I do when I boot up the machine, I don't jump all over the place throwing everything around, multiple saves, adjust autosave to a minimum, things like that. Also I don't keep it connected to the internet, heard some horror stories of other games by players who had their system froze right after doing something important and the last thing they saw was "dadada: is online" lol

Fallout 3 had that problem too when it first came out.

Fallout 3 is another game I never patched and had very few problems. I'm talking about the core game not the GOTY edition. I played for a considerably long time with only 2 freezes and hardly any glitches.

DAY ONE PATCH...

The patch will be fixing “some minor stability and quest progression issues" that's all....
