Rage PC Windows error

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 4:27 am

I installed Rage and the updates from the webiste. I have verified I have all the necessary system requirements. When I click on Play, I immediately get a windows error that says " Rage has stopped working - windows is checking for a solution". Any ideas on what might be causing this error?

I have updated the drivers for the video card and installed the latest version of DirectX. My PC has Windows 7.

Thanks

You could try running msconfig.exe and see what else is loading up at start up. Disable what you don't need and try running it again. (auto updates, tool bars etc...) There might be a conflict with another program, at lest its worth a try.

I also got an error from windows but i resolved that by down clocking my system "Q6600@3.2GHz & RipjawsX@1600MHz" to default CPU clock 2.4GHz and down clocking RAM to 1066 !

Game runs fine after that but I've managed to OC again with some tweaks on the timings and got it run @3.2GHz without errors..

So if your system is OCed , try running it on default clocks..

10 years ago John Carmack said this:

I know that as a developer, I would get hate mail from users when a point release breaks on their whiz-bang optimized driver, just like I do with overclocked CPUs, and I would get the same "but it works with everything else!" response when I tell them to put it back to normal.

10 years later are people any the wiser?

I have had several cases of people with lockup problems and decompression overreads having their problems fixed after they mentioned that they were overclocking either their CPU, their system bus (to 75mhz), or their 3DFX.

It doesn't matter if "it works for everything else", it still may be the source of the problem.

What website did you get the patch from? This is a bit curious because the only place you can get the patch is steam - unless your running a pirated copy of the game. If you bought the game it updates automatically and you don't do anything really. So - did you pirate the game? That's what this read like to me. You pirated the game and then you have the balls to ask for help on official forums? Really?

Hi, i am also having a problem with this game.
Bought game yesterday, inserted disk 1, got steam come up, created steam account, inputted cdkey into steam account, steam started running update/installing Rage - EST 14hrs. Didnt need the disks (seems steam takes over completly), finally after waiting about 15/16hrs it finish's this process and says upto date. Click Rage launch icon - This program has stopped working, windows is checking for a solution. I get this message when clickign teh exe shortcut on my desktop OR hitting teh rage icon when running Steam.
I have an i5 processor, 4gb system memory, 330M nvidia graphics card and plenty of diskspace. I am not overclocked and everything is fully upto date. What did i do wrong? Apart from it having Steam (of which thusfar i have yet to get a single game to work if this piece of crap software is connected with any games). Am now thiniking of taking it back to the store and getting my money back if this problem is not fixed/sorted. So am askign for any idea's or help on why i am having this.

run the game as administrator or in compatibility mode of 98/95 and see if that works
