Commands for stopping Sneak icon from lighting up?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:36 pm

Anyone know of a way to make it so that the Sneak icon doesn't light up when someone sees you? The only things I'd like to affect the Sneak icon are things that increase/decrease my chances of sneaking successfully (lighted area, sounds I'm making, my current sneak skill level, etc.)

It somewhat ruins the immersion/realism/suprise value in the game, when the Sneak icon lights up, telling me that someone sees me. For immersion's sake, I'd prefer to not be alerted by the icon. Rather, I would like to play intelligently and skillfully to do my best to increase my sneak chances, and, when the time comes to do something sneaky, "hope" that nobody sees me. The only way I'd like to be alerted to someone having seen me, is by the person saying something like, "Hey! Stop, thief!" etc.

Not only would this increase the immersion of the game for me, but also it would increase the challenge/difficulty. The Sneak icon lighting up can make many sneaky situations a little too easy.

If there isn't currently a way to do this, how about a way to remove the Sneak icon altogether from the HUD? True, I would then have no indicator showing that I am in Sneak mode, but I would prefer that, over having one that lights up when I'm seen.

Or maybe a command that makes it completely transparant?

Preferably, a command entered into the ini file would be best for me, but I'd be willing to enter commands into the console, even if I had to do it every time I start up the game.

I don't know if Oblivion had any commands for this, but if so, if anyone knows what they are, I'd be willing to try them with Skyrim.

Thanks for any help.

I tried this command under [Interface]
bShowSneakIcon=0

But it didn't work. Going to try a few others to see if any work.

Also, I had thought I had read that the sneak icon lights up when detected, but actually it just says detected/hidden. This is what I actually don't want--the "hidden/detected" warning.

Same here, I'm waiting for DaRN and the others to mod the interface, because having the actual text "HIDDEN" and "DETECTED" is redundant, because the icon tells you that already, so the text is unnecessary.

Here's a mod that removes the sneak icon from the HUD:

Perfect. This mod worked.

Now, if I could just get the mod's creator to create a good mod for hotkeying, the game would be close to perfect for me. =D

Another mod that you would maybe enjoy is http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=285. It removes the red dots showing you the position of enemies on the compass. There's also a compatibility patch available for the Remove Stealth Indicator mod.

I have downloaded a few mods from Nexus. Unfortunately many of the have the same filenames going into the same folder, so they overwrite each other.

I wrote a topic to see if there is a way to get them to work together, or whether I can only use one.

Yeah, No Enemies On Compass was one I also downloaded.

I just tried the compatibility patch. Seems to work, thanks. =D

Yeah, unfortunately both changes modify the same file, so thry conflict. If you want both changes at once, you'll need the "patch", which is a songle file containing both changes.

I hope somebody could make a mod that optionally removes all messages and bars from the HUD and just keeps a neutral small crosshair visible.
