Vlindrel Hall bug

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 2:47 am

So in Makarth, in order to buy the house there, "Vlindrel Hall", you need to complete a quest for the steward. You have to clear out "Bruca's Leap Redoubt" and kill the forsworn there. I did that fine, but when I turned the quest in the guy won't talk to me anymore except with some basic dialogue. I can't actually enter a conversation with him until about a day later, when he will give me some bounties. He doesn't sell me the house or even talk about it.
anyone else encounter this problem?

I was really looking forward to buying that house since it is so unique, being partly Dwemer ruins and all.

For all people who are having trouble getting Vlindrel Hall, the process is as follows:

1.) Talk to the Jarl and tell him you're interested in buying property.
2.) Build reputation with Markarth by doing little "go kill a bandit/Forsworn leader" quests. Each time you finish one, wait an hour of game-time then talk to the Jarl, the steward, and the innkeeper at the Silver-Blood Inn; one of the three will have the next quest, but it varies which one. You have completed this portion when the Jarl's idle dialog (i.e. what he says when you're just standing in the throne room not talking to him) becomes friendly -- i.e. he says he's glad to have you around.
3.) Be level 20 or above. I have a feeling this is the place most people are having trouble; if you're below level 20, once step 2 is done all house-related dialog options vanish until you reach level 20.
4.) Talk to the Jarl and he'll send you to retrieve his father's shield. Complete this quest, and the Jarl will declare you eligible to buy property in Markarth.
5.) Talk to the Steward and buy the property.

Well your guide there doesnt really address the actual problem; after completing all of those requirements the steward (when encountering the bug) will no longer enter a dialogue with you, only spout the basic "im the jarls uncle, CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION" crap. I swear im going to cut that old mans head off if i hear HI IM THE JARLS UNCLE one more time.

So bump i suppose, how do we get the Steward to talk to us again?
