The Creation Kit for Skyrim?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? When is it released?

I want to start modding.

I'm afraid to start modding. My GTX 580 probably can't handle any more load with its limited utilization.

It's not out yet and all we know is that they are working on getting it and the creation kit wiki out at the same time.

I see, thanks! Where would be a good place to keep track of things? TES Nexus? Planet Elder Scrolls?

Got over 4 years experience with CryEngine. Want to widen my horizons and start making environments/useful mods for this game now. Can't wait.

A good place to keep up to date with upcoming release of the kit would be in the mod's section. Also checking up on the Beth Blog would also be a good idea, as I'm sure that's the first place they'll announce the the release of it.

From my own experience from using the Construction Set and the GECK, I can tell you they're a helluva lot easier than the SDK for the CryEngine. :P

Haha, not sure if that's even possible! CryEngine is extremely straight-forward, at least I think so.

I don't have much experience with Oblivion's tools, I just remember trying them out back in 2007/2008. But I was already hooked on CE... I think the release of Skyrim is a great opportunity to start learning Bethesda's tools. I mean, yeah, we're seeing a lot of issues surfacing on the forums now, but I'm not too worried - modders are gonna change this game up-side down.

The Creation Kit isn't real time is it? If it is, man, that would be crazy awesome!

I would guess no, as the previous incarnations weren't. You had to exit the game, load up all the files you wanted the resources from (or import your own) and then start making your changes.

Unfortunately a lot of what we are seeing is beyond the realm of modding. If Bethesda doesn't fix it like they should, it's going to take our programming wizzes to come up with some third-party software fixes, stuff we'll either have to run in the background or something. They did a lot for both Morrowind and Oblivion. Then again, I'm not sure what limits they'll face now because the game runs through Steam. It's not like we can just load up the game through a third-party launcher anymore like we did with Oblivion for extended scripting and whatnot.

New Vegas has a script extender, Fomm, Wrye and that's a Steam game. Give it some time ey.

Well if Steam has to access the internet all time it'll ruin it for thousands of players.
I know of several players who don't have always-on internet access.
If the only way I can play with my own mods while making them is to use Steam - then forget it!
I thought something dreadful was going to ruin it for me and if I have to have a Steam account just to play this game, let alone mod it - I'm not going to buy it.

Yeah, I don't really see the point with Steam either... More profit for Bethesda maybe but what are they leaving us consumers with? Eh, the download time for this game was at 5 hours. Thank god I figured out how to install from the disc.

Hopefully Bethesda is working hard solve the issues we're having. Maybe they're pulling a Crytek (meaning lots of updates/fixes way after release...). One can only hope.
