Probably because of all the bugs this game had to start with & so many AMD/ATI video card users are still having trying to run Rage.
They need to get sells back since the bad word has gotten out about all the problems.

I wish I had waited. $60.00 was to much for this short game with no team vs team or one man army for online.

It's just 1 month after the official release, and it's already on sale.. the sales must've been disasterously low.

In other news, you can get the physical game for just 18 £ (21 € / 28 $) on http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bethesda-RAGE-PC-DVD/dp/B004DCAP7E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320846475&sr=8-1 for all us europeans. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=rage&x=0&y=0.

RAGE is currently #3 most sold game this week on Steam though, so I guess id Software's happy. I'm surprised Bethesda doesn't promote their other games, like "Buy RAGE and get 20% off Skyrim" or something.

Don't buy it if you have an ATI chipset. There is a very good chance it won't start at all, and even if it does it will look like crap. I wouldn't trust this game again, until they make a demo for it. But with all these problems, that will never happen. So find a new game.

I don't think it's accurate to classify Rage as a failure. id's biggest selling game was Doom 3 and that only shifted something like 4.5 million copies. Rage just seems like business as usual. It would have been probably better for sure if AMD had moderately competent driver programmers, and almost definitely better if it wasn't for the jerks hating on it just because they could.

I am hating on it because they released an incomplete and broken package. A company that supposedly wrote the book on FPS's can't even get their game to work on the major platforms. That is epic fail of the highest caliber.

I have a silly question for you guys that can actually get your game to start: Is there a big Nvidia advert when you are getting in?

There's a short sale on Steam, because yesterday an asteroid has passed earth inside the moon orbit. It's the largest since 1976 and the closest passing during the last 200 years.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-15572634

There's also a short passage on the real Apophis:
Earth has several regular visitors like 2005 YU55 - most famously the Apophis asteroid. Apophis has in the past been claimed as a possible future impactor when it returns to our neighbourhood in 2029 and again in 2036.
There is, according to the latest calculations, no danger from Apophis either. However, it will pass much closer to Earth on 13 April 2029 - at a distance of 18,300 miles (29,500km).

Nope it's not a "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" game.

do you guys know why suddenly Rage is 33% off? let me tell you that now. 2005 YU55 asteroid is passing near by Earth for two days. it has been approach since 11/8 (324,600 kilometers or 201,700 miles), then it will pass, get far distance from Earth on 11/10. it is one of the biggest one which was possible to hit Earth, we could face with devastation. it's been observed since 1976. so Rage game is related with this event. that's why it is 33%. but don't be relax. there is another coming.

My goodness! I have also read the book and played the game.
This is a marketing gag, because that asteroid has passed earth right now, just after the release of RAGE. The can't wait until 2029 (real Apophis passing) to promote the game.
All we're are saying is that there is a short sale due to this event and that it's not a permanent price cut.

btw. real Apophis is far to small to cause destruction on the scale the Apophis in RAGE does. Guess they just took that name because Apophis is one of the most famous asteroids.

Crazy to see that Bethesda and idSoftware need our money after stealing money from us for a game that doesn't work. They need more money to continue betatesting it with us. Everyone enjoy the idSoftware beta party with a huge discount 1 month after the official sale that can be considered the beta opening party each other software house offers for free. So at idSoftware everyone is proud to go sale on steam their last product awaited for years and years and years in less than 1 month instead of saying: guys we honestly need more time to let the game rool smooth without texture popping before the release. Everyone prepurchasing the game will be entered on betatesting program. You pay for something you know to pay for instead of finding yourself with idSoftware stealing money from your pocket and than recognize they did and say: look guys we can steal less money this month over Steam please enjoy the party...
Bethesda FAIL
idSoftware FAIL
RAGE = is a FAIL
Everyone payed the full price (like me) own a game that doesn't work and after 1 month, there is no patch or drivers from ATI or Sapphire working on ATI 4580 1GB GDDR3? Is so difficult for you to let the game roll on a graphic card that runs everything apart from RAGE?

don't you even read news? it is the real event. yesterday, it was all over the news channels. wake up. damn, people are so addict to freaking game so deeply.

by the way, I wish that next one will really hit Earth. all humanity will be extinct. we are evil who made this Earth so bad. look at the whole mother nature (including animals). they are suffered from extinct very quickly. under the name of development, human did very awful things. we should be disappeared.

I particularly liked this part of the Rage sales patter on the Steam advert:

"At 3:28 PST on Tuesday afternoon we were 201,700 miles from extinction. Breathe easy, play Rage!"

I don't think I've ever experienced more stress when trying to play a game during a gaming career that spans 30 years. It hasn't exactly been a "kick back and forget your troubles" experience for a lot of people. It's been more like having a second job.

It's sorted for me now though and I will say that the game is excellent when it works. But, as the old saying goes, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. When I think back on great games like Half-Life, Unreal, Deus-Ex and System Shock 2, I have fond memories about how immersive the games were and how I still remember lots about them many years later. In 10 years time I'm pretty sure that when someone makes a "remember the game Rage?" post, I will remember it for all the wrong reasons, which is a shame.

RAge runs smooth on my machine and it's very nice. And btw 33% off was a 2 day marketing as you can read above.

I know there are loads of machines on which RAGE runs. I also know that on a ATI 4870 the game runs smooth that card is not way different from ATI 4850 on which the RAGE game doesn't run as it is suppoused to. I also know there are extremely powerfull gaming stations on which the game doesn't run at all still today.
I also would like to tell you that the 33% in the sale 1 month later the game realease is a punch in the somach for everyone purchased the game at full price, marketing or not in front of that discount.

On my machine also the latest Battelfield 3 runs perfect.

Tell me man why release a game like RAGE and not work close with driver creators to provide the best experience before the game release?

I know games like Crysis took ages before a pc was capable to run it fully. That happened years before Rage... please understand me: 1 month RAGE out 1 month without a good driver... 1 month means a lot of working time. NO more or at least few issues still on nVidia so where is RAGE+Ati? Where?

:)
