Game looks fine, crashes when I meet John Goodman

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:49 pm

Hello, I'm another person who bought RAGE the day it came out and has not been able to play the game at all.

With the new patch out (11.11) and with the last one the game itself looks fine but it just crashes to my desktop every time I meet John Goodman in the first five minutes. Sometimes it crashes when i get in the buggy, once I made it all the way to the gas station he drives to, but the game just crashes.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this crashing issue? Again the game looks fine but the crashing has made this game totally unplayable over a month after I bought it.
Any help?

Desktop with
AMD Phenom II x4 Processor 3.20 GHz
6.00 GB RAM (3.12 usable)
32 bit operating system (I bought windows 7 off of new egg, it only came with the 32 bit disc, no idea how to upgrade)

AMD Radeon 6800 series with 11.11 installed, but it says 8.911.0.0 with the driver date at 10/25/2011. I don't understand that at all because I unistalled all AMD software, did a full driver sweep with reboot, then installed the latest patch and driver.

Please anyone help, I'd love to be able to play this game, for reference every other game i own runs flawlessly at max settings and I'm totally stumped and bummed about my tight gaming budget being shredded by this game I cannot enjoy.

ATIs open GL drivers are broken. Its been over a month since rage cam out and ATI has yet to fix them. You have two options. Wait an unknown amount of time for working ATI drivers, or upgrade to Nivida and play flawlessly. Other games you use play flawless, because they use Direct x or older versions of open GL, like the call of duty games.

Yeah about that...Nvidia cards have problems with this game too. I don't think as many from what I hear but I'm using Nvidia cards right now and Rage still has a crapton of issues with me. Many of the textures will never load and I'm uncertain if changing the graphics settings did anything since it still looks like absolute crap.

What Nvidia video card are you using & what driver version?

There is also a new Beta driver out: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1267818-geforce-28579-beta/
If you want to give it a try.

I use 2 EVGA GTX 560 Ti cards in SLI but I don't know if the game supports SLI. Also I guess I might as well try out the new drivers but I uninstalled Rage for the time being since I stopped caring due to absolutely no news whatsoever. Honestly if id wanted me to keep buying their games they could have at least tried to attempt some basic PR. I'm not buying another game of theirs on launch period and honestly from what I've played of Rage so far I'm not going to be missing a single thing that I don't have a better game for.

@80Maxwell08

SLI is not supported for Rage "yet", not that you need dual cards as its capped at 60fps & a single GTX 560 should easy max out the game at 60fps.
The game runs better when set to a single card or like using a single card.

Give this a try read here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1254066-graphic-problem/page__pid__19113777#entry19113777

In the Nvidia control panel "manage 3D settings" add a game profile for RAGE, by
scrolling to the rage.exe once added go to vertical sync and set to forced on.

Also set Singlie display and Triple buffering to On.

See picture: http://www.myalbumbank.com/displayimage.php?pid=5629

Someone suggested turning on Triple Buffering, but I fine Rage runs better on some Nvidia hardware with this set to off. "like my laptop GTX 460M"
I also have a Desktop with 2xGTX 480's the game Rage runs better when set to use only one card. 60fps single & drops off to 40fps when set to use both/SLI.

Edit: best in game Video Options settings for nvidia: "this works well for me"

None: Antialiasing
On: Vsync
Large: Texture Cache
Enabled: GPU Transcode.

Also: Under Stream: Rage/properties Set Launch Options: add line: +set com_skipIntroVideo 1
This skips the intro video, so you don't have to set threw it each time you start the game.
