Dark Brotherhood & Thieves Guild

I've heard people mention that you can't complete the questline for both, the DB and the Thieves, in one playthrough.
Is this confirmed?

If so, which one will you do and why?

I heard one can join all the guilds. The only choice between two is the Legion and the Stormcloaks.

If true, this is a knife in the back for me! I'd really hate to have to split up my rogue character into two just to finish one guild each. :verymad:

You could always save before you join, which is what I did with Shiver Isles for the 2 places, but it does make sense and is more RP-ish.

Maybe we'll have the ability to wipe out one of them since they're enemies, depending on the the one we join, that would be mad.

Although it makes sense, it's weird because you're not supposed to know who is part of the Thieves guild or DB

You can use shouts to pass the tests.

Who on earth would have said such a silly thing? Why on earth WOULD that be true?

People, I appeal to you. Friends don't let friends drink and post.

Spoiler
Somebody said that one of the Dark Brotherhood quests has you kill a member of the Thieves Guild. Some speculated that could have caused a conflict.

Morrowind did stuff like that.

Fighters and Thieves Guild had a conflict. If you did the Fighters Guild first, it would prevent you from joining the Thieves Guild at all. If you joined the guild, but didn't complete the particular mission until after you join the thieves guild, the mission would become harder.

Spoiler

You're asked to perform a single apprentice spell and the person who gives the test, sells it. I'm not sure how much the base magicka cost was so that's the only limitation I came upon.

From what I've done of quests so far, all could be done without magic. You might want to carry around a torch though, I used my light spell often in dungeons to see everything.

I hope you can't. If you want to be a member of the Thieves' guild you should honor its values.
