[WIP] Just Better Werewolves

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 6:28 am

Not sure if it has been mentioned as I ain't gone through all the posts, but a nice feature would also be to you run like a real werewolf on all fours instead of upright like a human, there was a tweak on oblivion which did that exact thing so I guess that could be used as reference.
I'd this a cunning troll? I bite. You already run on all fours, when sprinting. It looks pretty awesome actually.

My favorite thing about the sprinting werewolf animation is how it feels almost uncontrollable. Swerving and bounding. It's awesome. <3

I'm all for ANYTHING that expands on werewolves - or vampires, for that matter. (I haven't had the chance to mess with that yet, so I have no idea what it's like.) The immediate thing I can think of as a neat feature would be basically the fear howl ability when you're in your human form - if (assuming you do something like this) you're very in control/experienced with your werewolf self, you could 'flash' a little bit of werewolf and put a fear effect on nearby enemies.

The changing animation could have a little snippet taken from it to make the new animation, or some such. Obviously there'd be the danger of getting a bounty on your head if they got away from you, but it'd be sweet. The fear howl is aaawesome, and I'd love to see more blurring of the lines between one form and the other. I feel like it's too much of a toggle on/off right now.

Anyway, looking forward to this! n_n

I never said constantly walking on all fours, I meant if you press the sneak button the werewolf drops on all fours and stalks. And you can already turn at will in the vanilla game.
OK..

Well the turn at will is once a day I heard, unless you have hircines ring which lets you do more (don't know how many a day).
The thing is I want to be able to turn it off at will too, IE full control.

Will we be able to feed on wild animals?
I'd like to have this to at least regenerate health. Almost dying to a Falmer or troll and then not being to heal once they're dead is stupid.
As a huge werewolf fan, I have some suggestions, which hopefully are simple to implement but will help greatly.

1) Do werewolves receive stat boots in human form? They should. Obviously not as strong as when transformed, but more Health/Stamina than a regular human.

2) I know EVERYONE has the same jump/speed stat, and this seems to be extended to werewolves. If this can be changed in the CK, werewolves need to be able to run faster and jump higher. I saw one video where a werewolf could not jump over a waist high stone fence.

3) It also seems that werewolves couldn't sneak. I could be mistaken, but this needs to be changed as well (and a huge stealth boost goes without saying)

4) Health also did not seem to regen. Even in combat, a werewolf's health should regen at least a little bit. Maybe this effect is taken care of when you feed, but I feel like they should be somewhat like trolls...slight health regen all the time. In Bloodmoon, you simply needed to feed once a night, otherwise you would take a stat debuff. This seems better to me.

5) 180 seconds transform? How long does this translate to in game? I think at least 5 hours in game is the absolute minimum. I don't think you should need to feed to maintain your transformation. What if you are just roaming the countryside?

EDIT: I see that you have included some of these ideas, to a degree, such as the "bounce," but I firmly believe that things like improved jump/speed/nighteye/life detect should be inherent, and not need "kill levels." Just my opinion.
I'd like to see this, particularly the part about not having to maintain the transformation. It's not really viable to just go into werewolf form for the heck of it with the maintaining thing.

Also, can we get a way to change fur colors or something? I kind of wanted my werewolf's fur to be gray or white.

I really think that some balance is needed for the werewolves. It seems that everyone just wants more time transformed and more attack power and health regen... It is no fun if you just destroy everything as a werewolf that has no penalties.

I agree that after being a werewolf for a long time you should be an awesome power house, but getting to that level should be time consuming, annoying and frustrating. If it wasn't then it wouldn't feel rewarding to become awesome at the end.

I think that first of all the abilities already in the game need to be leveled just to solve being overpowered at low levels and underpowered at high levels.

Second I think that at first you should be forced to transform every night which would require planning so no one saw you transform. As you age in days you learn to control the force of the moon and at time intervals you are only force to transform when one of the moons is full, and then only when the small moon is full and then finally at your strongest you only force transform when the largest moon is full (still good to have some planning involved!). As you progress through these age limits you can transform at will more and more, perhaps once a day when you get to the small full moon stage and then twice a day when you are at the final stage.

As for feeding I think that if you don't feed on a human each transformation you get a debuff when you are human, if you feed you stay normal.

This then leads to there being a skill tree that brances in to two, you get 2-3 perk points at each age level that you can invest into the "good" side or the "bad" side. The emphasis on the good side is that you can start to feed on wild animals and instead not get a debuff. On the evil side you start to get buffs after feeding on a human when you return to human form. (the reason both don't get equal buffs is because killing a wild animal is easier to do and killing humans is more riskey).

As you get more evil or good your smell ability (an adaption of clairvoyance) will direct you to the closest human or wild deer/elk etc depending on your alignment.

Perhaps the benefits to being good is that evil werewolves develop a bloodlust and so depending on age have a random chance of just transforming every hour (10% decreasing by 2% each age level to 4% at the highest level), good werewolves don't get this after progressing to a certain point in their perk tree.

The amount of perks you get from aging only allows you to fully progress down one side of the tree to a final ability.

Maybe the final ability of the evil tree could be to decrease your disease immunity allowing you to become infected by the vampire disease, getting the bonuses of both (plus having a cooler underworld marcus/werewolf cross appearance).

Anyway those are just my thoughts! I do have modding ability so I will attempt to get some of them working when the CS comes out

Just putting it out there, getting to 1000 feeds will take a very very very very very long time if you are not a devoted werewolf. Even if you clear out all the bandit camps and caves in wich bandits inhabit that you can reach within 100 hours of a normal non speed run playthrough, I doubt you can feed on 1000 bandits.

Best "Werewolf Changes" thread I've seen yet, makes me want to add my own input, so here goes...

I think I'd like to see Werewolves behave more like Vampires, in a sense(not to say Vampires don't need some tweaking as well, but that is for another thread :P). At first, transformations should be uncontrollable; perhaps once every night at midnight. If you happen to be sleeping at the time, it will force you to wake up and transform.

From here I think of several different ideas.

A ) Feeding advances your "werewolfness". As you advance you gain more control and are forced to transform less (once every other night, then every 3 nights and so on) as well as gaining more werewolf abilities (detect life, super strength, ect).

B ) You are stuck in this "forced" transformation until you feed. This would then link back to (A)

C ) You stay a werewolf until day break. If you don't feed you gain a "hunger" debuff (as others have already suggested). This would link back to (A)

D ) You stay a werewolf until day break. If you feed you gain a "satiated" buff, increasing your strength in human form. Linked back to (A)

There is so much potential to expand upon the werewolf gameplay "model". As it is now, it's still pretty cool, but feels more like a gimmick than a gameplay element.

I can't wait for the Construction Kit and if this mod looks like it can deliver the enhanced werewolf experiance I was looking for. If you need/want any help with this once the 'Kit is released, let me know; I would jump at the chance to improve this little aspect :)

Why leveling up as a werewolf by feeding? He is not a vampire... he doesn't draw his power from blood. I say leave that to the vampires...

The werewolf gets stronger as he stay more in his 'true' form, he fights in it... he learns to control it more. The leveling up should be as in the normal game - attacking makes your atacks stronger, getting hit, makes your skin thicker :P ... It's the way 'Nature' (or Hircine) helps you evolve and adjust to the challenges ahead.
