Graphic issue: wood surfaces covered in colorful dots

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:55 pm

Hello,

As the title says, surfaces in the game (wood only, and not all of it, the one in the dungeons for example is intact) are acting very weird.
My spec is AMD Phenom II x4 965BE, HD 6970 2GB, 8gigs ddr3

Ive included a pic so you can see what I'm talking about, hope i can fix this and enjoy the game :(

Could look like overheating GPU memory.

Try to monitor the GPU temperature when playing.

My GPU is 48-56 in idle, and ingame it is 60 to 70 tops.

And yes, i have the latest drivers.

That looks a lot like the GPU is overheating. Time for a break.

Whoa..that definitely looks like heat issue...but noting the temps you posted..shouldn't be.

Is your GPU overclocked? I know if I get heat..or an unstable OC I get artifacts like that.

No, not overheating. 60 to 70 is fine.

As I mentioned it looks like it is the memory that is overheating. Are these also the temps for the GPU memory?

dispIO is at 60
Memory is at 64
Shader is at 68

hmm, it is not the issue that the dots are appearing, they are there as soon as i enter the game, fresh from windows, thats like 30 secs from starting. If the GPU is overheating shouldnt they be spawning when it overheats?
these dots are on all wood, as they were put there even before starting the game...

You might not like to hear this, but it could be that your graphic card is damaged.

I had a similar problem with a brand new card that I hard overclocked too much and thereby damaged the memory. Have you ever OC'ed your graphic card?

Try to run some very intense benchmark programs and see how it looks when the card gets stressed really much (3D mark or similar)

And you looked at the graphics and they looked fine?

Try to run it again just to make sure that it can still run it without any artifacts.

At the risk of sounding really patronising - have you tried rebooting? You may just need to clear the video memory.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, removing all Skyrim related files?
