Rage ATI help!

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 11:31 pm

Hi there

The problem isn't with any software issue with steam or direct X or VAC or administrative mode , in fact nothing of the sort.
The problem is when I launch the game I load up the main menu with no problems and when I start a new Game and then finish watching the intro movie I am then kicked into the scene were the character is inside the pod (now at this time the FPS has dropped to 0 and the sound comes on and off).
The Game does not carry on and if I leave it alone in this condition for 5min and come back I am still loading the pod scene and the sound is on and off. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=720v45YsVww&list=UUtyzcEcHpPwEBPboX8LpZ_g&feature=plcp)
That video is a example of the stuttering spikes I get also I managed to see what my fps is like and it's showing 0.

I identified the problem via steam forums and the problem is that the Game doesn't detected certain types of graphics cards thus the Game then doesn't use the Vram, I have followed several steps to fix the problem that I found on the steam forums and other sources but still no luck.
I have also contacted ID software for this problem and I haven't heard a thing to this day what the problem is. (contacted them 5 days ago)

To recap...
All my drivers have been updated I have followed several ATI fixes but no luck, If I try to do a fresh install it will take me at least 4 days just to re-download the entire Game.
So re-downloading isn't a option at this time.

If I didn't state before I have tried to use the ati preview fixes but nothing works, if someone could provide me with a step by step instructions to solve the problem that would be grand.

Thank you
Giancarlo

Hi there

I've been in the same boat since early October.....Running 64 Win 7, AMD chipset and drivers, Radeon 5830

You'll just have to wait for AMD Catalyst drivers to be FIXED !!

Since you haven't provided any of your system components, this is just a stab in the dark....

In your steam library page, right click on rage, properties... and click set launch options and add "+jobs_numThreads 0" without the quotes.

This fix worked well for me. It is meant for dual core CPU's

The game is running great for me now.

Also I am using the Cat 11.12 that just came out today.

It's really difficult to guess as to a cause because we don't know anything about your system (aside from the fact that you have some kind of AMD/ATI graphics), but one possible cause is that you may have switchable graphics. If so, disabling them in the BIOS may help, but it's impossible to know as we don't know your system.

Sorry gents

Was a little tired last night too much partying is not good.

Any ways here is my exact system specs I do know at a glance that I need a serious upgrade but screw it if I can run BF3 then I should be able to run this.

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
Motherboard: ASUS P5QL PRO
Ram: 4GB DDR 2 Corsair
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series DDR5 1GB 256bit
Sound device: Using my on-board sound card
CPU: Intel Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.5GHz

Hope it helps
And nothing is overclocked.

Thanks again!

And no one else know by chance the date in which they are supposed to release a fixed Driver?

Did you try the fix in my post? You have a dual core, so It should help you, as it cured the 0 fps/stuttering problem for me.

Most likely that this is the cause of your grief, Rage has a heavier CPU load than many recent games and there have been other reports of it not playing too nice with dual-core. jobs_numthreads 0 is, IIRC, the appropriate fix.
