Ok I went out today to my local Game Station and got myself a copy of Rage pc as it was on sale(even cheaper then steam sale) and I came home installed everything just fine added the code for the anarchy stuff and when I go to play it and it crashes instantly.
I run
windows 7
Radeon HD 5145
8gb ram
AMD phenom II p820 triple core processor(came with the board)
and over 500gb space free.
I updated all my drivers stopped everything else from running and I crashes instantly on start up. I looked through FAQ and they were less then useless so any help from the community would be welcome. and I have to say that alot of people seem to be having problems with this game on pc......

Yep I am having the same problem.

EDIT:
After allot of tries I believe the driver might still be at fault. altough I updated it when checking at the AMD driver detection tool it keep saying I need to update like the version hasnt changed.
Checked again at "catalyst control center" and it says "catalyst versuin 10.12."
I think it suppose to be 11.11 or something like that, can you check if you have the same issue? that will help us both.
I tried removing the driver and re installing it, but it seems to only auto install the same version. :/
I am still not sure it has anything to do with the game not working since other games work well.

Long Version:
After many hours of searching why Rage will not load (stops working right after its lunched saying "Rage stopped working...")
I realize the problem is the ATI driver. but I have updated the driver a dozen times, I thought to myself. or did i?
After checking the catalyst control center (CCC) I realized I have an old version of the driver* although I ran the installation for new driver again and again.
then I also realize that while installing the new driver I don't actually see any installation, it basically exit to desktop with out doing anything.

I have a 64 bit version but It worked after downloading both.

Next step I installed the driver and it really did install this time, and I lunched the game, everything worked fine.

It turns out that even if you don't have visual studios2005 the installation program for the driver collides with its dll, and the fix must be downloaded.

*Note: the driver date that matters is in the CCC, any other date like the one in Device manager doesn't matter.

I think that is partly a W7 problem. I've seen the same in the past where W7 will force install its own driver. "witch are old"
I haven't had the problem in a while & don't remember the fix I came up with for that.
Seems it was some how stopping the W7 install & doing a manual install of the drive of my choose threw control panel devices.

Edit: also I turned off auto update for windows. Now I manually pick what I want W7 to install, I just manually check ever so often.
Hibernate & stand by mode seems to cause a lot of people problems as well.

lol the fix worked fine, I got it working, but now the game freezes like hell. could be my old machine just doesnt cut it anymore, however I met the requirments and ran many new games with out a sweat, so I am thinking some twiking will be requird... its allot of hassel for just one game.

Someone just posted to turn off Vsync with in the game options, but turn vsync on in CCC will stop the freezing.
I don't have ATI/AMD video so I can't confirm, but its worth a try.

Edit: give your system specs so we know what your working with.
There are many here that can help. Depending on your hardware there maybe some commands line that need to be added to the Rage launch.
Placing those in you sig, would be best that way there always there for viewing by others when you ask for help.

This is where I would start with your dual core CPU setup:

Step: Setting Game Launch Options in "Steam":
- Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
- Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
- Enter the launch options
+cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +vt_maxPPF 8
and click OK.
- Close the game's Properties window.
Try playing the game now.

it didnt say but I have ATI Radeon HD 4870 sonic but with 512 mb GDDR 5. beside this game everything till now ran smooth.
I already changed the lunch options and tried some things, will try yours too. so far it helped, it doesnt freeze anymore, but ran very laggy. still not very playable.

I havent fully tasted everything you wrote but just the -1 in job_num did the work! it runs smooth. but the grafic are very low. now I iwll try to up everything else see if its still runs good.

The game runs smooth and the grafic is better now that I used your text instead of the steam site one. going to have some good times thank you so much!

at first it ran smooth, but low grafics, but now its kind of slow. I think long plays slows it down.. maybe needs a bit more tweaking.
Also notice flicking some times.
oh and I am using the latest driver patch 11.11.

Making up a RageConfig.cfg to place in the rage\base folder with this string: fs_cachepath "C:\Users\TheWolf\AppData\Local\id software\rage"
may help, where TheWolf is would be you login or user folder for your rig. These folder I made myself and Rage does use them to cache stuff there.

If you read there you will see this stuff is all new to me and I'm still lost on what some of it does, so using those configs might not be a good idea since there for Intel HD Graphic laptop.
Anyways just trying to help. Finding a config from someone with the same hardware that worked for them might work as well for you, then maybe not.
Its all pretty much trial & error testing. Witch can take up quite a bit of time.

I added the fs_cachpatath, altough I already had that id software foloder that I made and rage seem to have been using it. but maybe it will use it better with this string... I will see tomorrow.

I know my rig isnt the best, but its quite well tuned up and all the parts fit in so perfectly with each other she was a beast in her time
(and hella expensive - 2000$ for just the pc can buy a darn good pc were I am from.)
until this game I ran crysis 2, far cry 2, dead island, fallout 3 and New vegas, TF2, portal 1 & 2, bioshock 2, bulletstorm... those and more high end demending games, you name it my old gal did it, and with highest setting nonetheless!
I still havent seen her break a sweat, but on this game it couldent move when I just installed it. now with the tweaking I can get about an hour game play before it starts lagging too bad, like it ran out of cach memory or something.
The game looks beautiful, and I am sure takes allot of resources, but compared to the other games I posted with the requirments it had, it should have run smooth at meduim setting... I dont know, I hope they fix those problems with the ATI/AMD cards so I can enjoy the game and let my rig live another day

Im not a big fan of Rage, I bought it when the game came out. But honestly AMD wont be a company much longer and people keep buying their cards. The hardware is great but the drivers svck!

They have officially announced that they are no longer trying to compete with Intel on processors. Soon they will no longer be trying to compete with Nvidia on graphics cards/drivers.

Yes, look at my signature, im guilty twice as much as you. Buy Nvidia.. They are much better at writing graphics drivers.

I'd say the few problems you have now are most likely due to the amount of ram on the video card.
Min. requirements is 1024 for the video card. Working with the commands that deal with that may get the lag your seeing to be less or not at all.

Edit: or you can play for a hour or so save the game exit & go back in & play some more.
But if your anything like me I play for hours at a time, many hours. lol
If I really get into a game I will play it threw all the way in one setting, 12 hours or more.
I have been known to play 48 hours or more in one setting, but those where mostly old school Quake days plus most of those were online games vs other people.
Heck some times we would even play co-op mode for 36 hours straight. lol That was Q2 or Q3 I really don't remember now. But was a lot of fun.
I finished NFS The Run campaign in one setting. took about 10 hours I'm guessing.
I didn't really keep up with it closely since I had already been up about 18 hours when I started playing it.

I finnaly found an aditional fix that works, I will also make a topic about it, the link to the steam forum were the guy gave me the fix:

Glad you found a fix for your problems. But I see from the other thread "you made" it doesn't work for everyone.
Or its most likely the explanation on how and what to do is not clear enough from either of these threads for everyone to understand.
A step by step walk threw would be much better plus complete info all in one post that way people don't have to jump from one site to another getting bits & pieces.
Then try to do them in the correct order. It can become confusing for many.

You do realize that your card is way below minimum specs? You might run id Tech 3 on this, but definitely not id Tech 5.

I was having the same issue, I am running W7 64-Bit AMD HD 6800, 6 core 3.4 CPU 16 gigs of ram 1 terrabyte HD but I went http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1236250-rage-support/page__view__findpost__p__18926762 and just got to play the game an make my first save.
