Switching from Comcast to DirecTV

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 10:46 am

My folks are getting sick of Comcast's ever-increasing monthly bill that they just decided to switch companies, starting tomorrow. Our ISP is apparently going to be Centurylink, and I'm in the midst of researching them. I'm just wondering if anyone here uses them and has an opinion, or even an opinion concerning DirecTV and its services. Going by reviews and such, Centurylink is making a lot of people angry and has a history of not living up to the speeds of their plans, but some of these complaints are old, so I don't know how they hold up today, especially with their faster setups.

Centurylink? That's what I have!

I hope you're in a city or large town, because it does not perform well in rural areas. At all.

I'm rocking 50kbps max, and SpeedTest tells me I'm slower than 96% of America.

I'm in a wooded area, but I'm also only ~20-30 miles from my state capital, and I think we're gonna go with their 40MBS plan. We'll just have to see about that tomorrow. It seems Centurylink is either good or absolutely terrible, depending on location and the type of setup you get. As an avid gamer who would like to play online in the near future, this is making me rather nervous.

Edit: Shows how little I know, I just looked up what services my area has and I can get up to 10MBS, which wouldn't bother me much so long as the latency was acceptable.
