Console error

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 10:08 am

I keep getting a repeated message from the game stating since I have activated the console during THIS game that I am no longer eligible for Achievements.

I understand the reason behind this, unfortunately that was from a PREVIOUS game and NOT the current game.

Either remove the bug that carries this through ALL games started from scratch or I will.

Just an FYI.

The TILDE key which opens the console just so fracking happens to be right next to the "1" key (which I don't have to tell you just so happens to be the "Fists" key.

One accidental slip during active combat and VOILA, you have the console by accident --- and THEREFORE this stupid message which I assume activates the subsequent deactivation of Achievements.

So what if we actually WANT to go for Achievements?

And if anyone suggests I delete and reload the game, I will hunt you down and vaporize your entire existence on this earth.

BTW, it is a great game.... id rocks, always has, always will........................

Why not just remove the command that enables the console?
The game doesn't come with the console enabled, so you had to add the command line at some point.
Not much real need for the console at this time since they locked pretty much everything with the first patch release.

No, I didn't add any command line and have been playing this off the shelf retail version.

I will go back in and have a look see at the keyboard options and see if this is unbindable.

In the meantime, I have restarted the game NEW and hopefully can keep my fat fingers off the tilde key :)

Double-check your Steam launch options for the game. A lot of the lauch options given to "fix" the game included a lot of stuff that wasn't actually needed for to do so, and if you copy and pasted one of them you may have a +com_AllowConsole 1 in there.

This is kinda weird. I have enabled the console and used quite a bunch of commands, yet I have never received the message that I cannot get achievemenets because of it.

I also don't have the problem with the console being bound to the tilde key, as (for some unknown reason) it's actually bound to my '?' key on my Danish keyboard http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b7/Illuminated_keyboard_2.JPG.

But if you don't need the console, you can turn it off by opening the console and typing "com_allowConsole 0".

Same here, I pre ordered the retail box with the extra DLC.
Matter of fact I went from start to finish in nighmare with it enabled.
Even picked up a couple achievements I didn't get when I play threw at normal the first time threw.
Even when I down graded to the unpatch version for testing I never got that message.

Edit: I have seen people saying this that was using a trainer cheat with the game

Whoa how do you unpatch the game? I've been looking for an unpatched *.exe for a long while to use some of the locked variables.

I'll have to get on my other computer to find the link, but you should be able to do a search for rage unpatch with google and find the files to unpatch.
All the files are is the files that came with rage out of box before the patch. You'll have to put steam in offline mode before running the game "Edit" before you unpatch it.
Edit: If steam is in online mode it will download the patch and you'll be right back where you were before unpatching, patched. lol

Well I actually just wanted it so I could improve the performance on my laptop with the dynamic resolution feature that the game has :)

I've finished the game muti times "before & after the patch" so I was just looking for other ways to have fun with the game.
With the accelerated walk/run speed I was able to get up to a few spots I wasn't able to at normal speeds.
I tried out god mode and unlimited ammo but not as a way to win at the game, just to see it at work.
I have enough skill I don't need cheats to win, plus those just takes the competition fun out of the game.
But they do work in the unpatched game. Funny on release they left those in, makes me believe the game was rushed out.

I know you were probably not looking for these "and may already know of them" but I'll drop them off here in case you would like to give a few a try.

Full list of what I have found to work, so far. For unpatched version only.

?cvarAdd g_permaGodMode 1 - Enable God Mode
?cvarAdd g_infiniteAmmo 1 - Enable infinite ammo
?cvarAdd g_permaGodMode -1 - Disable God Mode
?cvarAdd g_infiniteAmmo -1 - Disable infinite ammo
?cvarAdd pm_togglesprint 1 - Enable sprint toggle
?cvarAdd g_weaponkick 0 - Disable weapon kick

You can use the following commands to add or subtract from default values.
Example: The default field of view for the game is 80. cvarAdd g_fov 10 will make it 90, and cvarAdd g_fov -10 would make it 70).

?cvarAdd g_fov # - Change the field of view (Default 80)
?cvarAdd g_playerHealthPerSecond # - Health regen speed (Default .5)
?cvarAdd g_playerHealthRegenDelay # - After taking damage(Default 5)
?cvarAdd pm_jumpheight # - Jump height (Default 52)
?cvarAdd pm_sprintspeed # - Sprint speed (Default 450)
?cvarAdd g_ammoSwitchDelay # - Ammo switch delay (Default 600)

cvarAdd pm_runspeed try 1000 then 2000 lol
cvarAdd pm_jumpheight same 2000 then 20000

20.000 jump height is killer, like walking on the moon.
One of the old quake levels use to have no gravity and was a lot of fun or was that quake 2? Rocket shooting while floating threw the air was killer. Rocket jumping was a lot of fun as well.
Better use this one with those two or you may die to easy to see just what you can do with those. roflol

cvarAdd g_permaGodMode 1

Edit: BTW the runspeed seems easier to control than the sprintspeed.
