WIPz Weapons for mundanes

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the feel of Tamriels combat but someone started talking about a nightstalker vampire mod, and vampire hunters and I realised that what I wanted to see was a crazed man, in a silly hat with a sword in one hand and a matchlock pistol in the other. Then, when talking about firearms on the nexus forums someone mentioned grenades and bombs and so I decided that my first mod would be this one. Overly ambitious, complicated but fun.

Now, I want to keep this as in keeping with Tamriel as a mod bringing firearms in can be so I am thinking early medieval weapons. Matchlocks - powerful but inaccurate and slow to reload, flasks of volatile chemicals and unpredictable results.

Now, we have no construction set, and people are only just getting to grips with editing existing meshes and textures so this is going to take some time, but there we go. Ideas are welcome at this stage. Well, they are at any stage really but its easier to get on with them at this point.

Weapons to be included:

Firearms:
Pistol
Carbine
Long gun

Firearm Types:
Iron = Iron x 2 + Wood
Steel = Steel x 2 + Wood
= + Steel (barrel) + Silver
Ebony = Ebony (stock) + Steel (barrel) + Gold
Dweamer = Dragon Bone? (Stock) + Dweamer (barrel) + Gold

Why this order? I see the first 4 as the contributions of the current citizens of Tamriel. The top level being Dweamer? You know who probably had guns if anyone did? The Dweamer. The had Centurions and gears and machinery so why not?

Why only 5?
I want to keep this as close as possible to bows. You can upgrade your bows a bit, so I suppose you should be able to upgrade your gun. Best way to do that? The firing mechanism. So far most mechanical traps I have met seem to involve soul gems as the source of power so I am thinking crafted firing mechanisms based around soul gems, precious metals and components. These firing mechanisms would fit the standard soul gem hierarchy of petty, lesser, common, greater and grand.

Iron: Petty Soul Gem + Saphire + Silver
Steel: Lesser Soul Gem + Emerald + Gold
Misc: Common Soul Gem + Ruby + Refined Moonsstone
Ebony: Greater Soul Gem + Dweamer Gyro + Refined Moonsstone
Dweamer: Grand Soul Gem + Centurion Gyro + Refined Moonsstone

Ammo: To be crafted/bought - a mixture of metals and firesalts and maybe something else.

Iron: Iron + Fire Salts + Cotton
Steel: Steel + Fire Salts + Cotton
Misc: + Fire Salts + Cotton
Ebony: Ebony + Fire Salts + Cotton
Dweamer: Dweamer Metal + Fire Salts + Cotton

Grenades:

These are going to have to be flasks of chemicals really, so we are looking at alchemy. If we are looking at alchemy we are looking at potentially needing new materials or finding a way to create materials that normally fail together into something else. Plus something to mark it as a grenade flask rather than a potion poison. We could end up needing to make this on something else to allow a none alchemy interface. (I guess I need to flesh this bit out later.)

Grenade effects:

Fire
Smoke
Noise (Similar to a flashbang)
Poison Gas (Fear, Frenzy, Paralyse, Damage Health, Damage Stamina)

So here we go, doors are open for comment

Van Helsing, much? *G*

Don't get me wrong. I like the idea of it in addition with a seperated modification / overhaul, but Tamriel with fireweapons, bombs and such... well it would be just quite off to me.

There are already bomb traps, those clay urns filled with flammable liquids. Blackpowder weaponry isn't much of a stretch. Van Helsing (at least the movie) is really more about gas-powered fully-automatic repeating crossbows, which is about as realistic as an Elder Dragon.
