More distant waterfalls

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 12:49 pm

I was wondering if someone could tell me how I might be able to make the animation for the waterfalls load at a greater distance. I've already set most of the view distances set to max on the video settings.

Please forgive me if I'm asking this in the wrong forum.

You might want to search around for how to set the uGridsToLoad setting higher than the default. This will make the game load more grids at a time (default is 5, people with mid-range PCs can easily do 7, higher end PCs can do 9 or 11 pretty well) so you'll see a lot more stuff in the distance.

Thx for the info. I bet that is a line in the .ini file. I'll have to have a look.

Ok i had a look at two of the ini's and didnt find that line so maybe its a line one has to add. Now I wonder which ini.

I remember the first time I saw waterfalls at a distance. My first reaction was excitement, I honestly thought they were frozen waterfalls and I stopped chasing the Elk I was hunting and ran straight ahead to it. Oh boy was I pissed when the mirage pulled the wools over my eyes that day.

Search the Skyrim forums here for "uGridsToLoad". There are several settings related to that one and they are interdependent, so you *definitely* need to actually go find the thread about it. It has important information that I can't tell you off the top of my head. It's not as easy as just changing uGridsToLoad itself.

Ok thx again.

Well I've tried that and it seems to make my game much more unstable. It doesn't lag badly or anything, it just crashes much more often.

Hmm well after some further investigation it seems that different people have to use different settings. If I used:

uGridsToLoad=9
uExterior Cell Buffer=64
uInterior Cell Buffer=12

Then I would crash when nearing cities. If I change uGridsToLoad=9 to 7 then I would crash as soon as I tried to load a game. I tried various other solutions resulting in crashes when nearing cities. Finally I ended up with:

uGridsToLoad=9
uExterior Cell Buffer=64
iPreloadSizeLimit=26214400
bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=0

So far no crashes for me at least.
