Exam prep.

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 11:55 am

Hey, its my first written AS level exam tomorrow morning; Russia 1855-October 1917. I know my stuff, I've done practice essays but I still have that sense of impending doom. Since its the day before its hardly the time to sift through the textbook hurriedly taking in statistics and dates...

Sparked an idea for a topic..how do people get in the zone or relax in the final hours before an important exam/test of any kind?
I've currently done 2 light 12 mark essays, glanced over a timeline and drank a fair amount of tea and coffee whilst trying not to over do it or at the other end of the spectrum; become too distracted by certain things I shouldn't be............. :tes: :fallout:

So how do the fair people of these forums get ready for exams and such? Obviously in the final few hours/day before/morning before ect assuming preparation has been done up to that point

Well... I had exams a week ago and I procrastinated studying so much, that I had to get out the Lesser Key of Solomon and summon Furfur and Stolas to help me at the last minute.

Got an A on each one.

I don't know, I just don't worry. If you worry you will fail...

A semester is not won or lost in exam week. The entire semester is my preparation.

I know exactly what you're going through. Term finals here as well. :(

Anyway, Like Z said, you're meant to work at it all year, so by the time it's exam week, you're all set. By the sound of it, you've got it all covered and are just brushing up on last minute details which is perfectly fine. But what you need to remember is that at this stage, you should concentrate on being physically at your peak during the exam as well. You might have the knowledge there, but if you're sleepy, you won't be able to put it down on paper.

So make sure to get a good rest, and have plenty of carbs and water in the morning. But not so much that you'd have to go to the bathroom during your paper! :P

As for relaxing when you're tense, I usually just watch a couple episodes of my favorite anime. :3

I have a virtual paper due today and two essays due Friday. If you know you're stuff, you're good. If they're take home, just do them and don't wait until the last minute. When I need to relax I play games after I study or reward myself with a game after I finish/take an exam/essay.

Start studying two or three hours before the test like I do.

I either don't cram at all, or my studying method revolves around chanting the information, so I'm always just pretty chill about things.

In my mind, if studying isn't relaxing for you, you're studying wrong.

It's been many decades since I faced exams, but I never worried about them, or studied. If I hadn't absorbed the information during the term, studying wasn't going to help.

Chill, take a nap, go ahead and play your games.

If you feel you know your stuff, all the essentials and plenty of obscure details, there's nothing to worry about.

Just don't start playing Diablo 3 tonight and you'll be fine.

Some terrible advice in this thread about not studying or not bothering with studying. =/ Yeah, good for you if you never studied and did well.

Sounds like you know your stuff. Just take it easy and don't stress yourself, that won't make it any easier. Try study a little bit right before you go to bed, it works for me. That way your brain can prepare better for the next day, or atleast that's the theory. :P

Haha, done that first one now; felt good! Weird how once the first ones done your not nervous just geared up for it.
