Smithing Questions

I'm just wondering what ores can be used to create weapons and what are the different ores properties and strengths(base strenghts)? Also how much more damage can be added to a weapon through smithing?

How do you smelt Ore into Ingots?

In Whiterun just as you enter the city proper there is an armor/weapon smith in the back behind her forge is a smelter if you look throught the options and you find a mine(and have a pickaxe) you can mine certain ores to smelt into ingots for weapon/armor crafting.

How do you smelt Ore into Ingots?
