And before readers start thinking I made a mistake i just want to make a few things clear:
1. I always save with new characters using "New Save file." Even my very first save, i did NOT save over the "PRISONER - level 1" file
2. It was the third new character i made that overwrote my old one
I work in Quality Assurance for another game company, so i will try to write down my reproduction steps as clearly and as exact as possible.
1. Created a new Male Redguard and played over time for 30 hours, i was level 25.
2. Every consecutive save was an overwrite of my first, the first save was a manual save using the "New Save File" option (In the beginning of the game I Followed the Imperial guy, Hadvar? don't remember his name)
3. Created a new Female High elf character. Made it to the first small town, Riverwood and saved via "New Save File" (Followed Hadvar again)
4. At this time my old Redguard character's file was there, but all other files were replaced with the High elves AUTO saves
5. Created a third character, This time a Male Nord (Followed the Storm Cloak this time)
6. After getting my hands free and equipping a new weapon i opened the save menu
7. This is where i noticed that my original Redguard character was gone from the list
A couple of notes.
My game save size exceeded 6 MB. I did see some of the frame rate loss other PS3 players are complaining about, but the game was never unplayable.
Between steps 3 and 5, I never loaded up my original Character. After i played and saved with the High Elf, i turned my system off. I came home from work the next day and proceeded to make a third character.
This is my first post here, I am just looking for answers as to why I got this problem.
After reading forums i see people saying "Why didn't you create multiple saves!?" Well, Usually i do. I played oblivion on the xbox, and fallout 3 & Vegas on the PS3. I used to make multiple saves, but for some reason i got this notion that the Auto saves would serve as my multiple saves and i would be ok. Fail on my part.
Also, I notice people say "Don't save over the 'PRISONER 1' file!" ... Well i didn't, I was sure to select "New Save File." That's what i did, and that's what i always do.
I want to think that this problem is somehow related to the large save files people are experiencing. My save file was over 6 MB and i was reading that this is about the file size when people experience "unplayable lag." I did notice some loss in frame rates, but it was never unplayable.
I just want Bethesda to know that this is an issue. We may be a small percent, but it's a terrible bug. I'm not here to point fingers, or call people names. I'm not here for a refund or have some kind of unreasonable demands. I just want them to acknowledge that this is an issue and fix it. I don't want it to happen again, and i don't want other people to suffer.
There is another post, while it seems like a heated discussion, that has this problem too. So i am not the only one. Link here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1284552-confirmed-new-character-will-overwrite-previious-save/
Thank you.

I was thinking of starting a new one so I wouldnt have to wait for patch and could still enjoy Skyrim lol. My first char is in 8MB heading to 9MB, was planning to give the char a break until patch before that char went to the point of no return where not even a patch would save it.
